No no foods?

I have been trying to offer 10 month old DD finger foods whenever possible. She is small, and doesn't eat a lot, but seems to enjoy what we eat.
I haven't tried some foods because I am worried about how some of them will break down.

Sausage, broccoli rabe, tomato sauce are three I can think of right now. What age would you start these foods?

No no foods?

If they will eat it I would give it. At that age the only thing I stayed away from was foods that were allergy ones.

Re: No no foods?

Why are those foods wrong? I let DD try everything we ate, just cut up tiny. Meats, veg, sauce, sweets, etc.

No no foods?

Gave whatever I ate to my daughter around 5months. Gave her strips of meat, broccoli florets, bananas, cheese sticks she wld suck/gum. I'd cut up pasta since that gets slippery when wet.
You can take whatever you eat & cut up & either feed or or let her feed herself. At 10m my baby was eating all table food. No cereal no jar food.

Re: No no foods?

By 10 months, I was giving DD pretty much everything aside from nuts and shellfish. I went a little easy on the tomatoes and other acidic/citrusy fruits in the beginning, as they did give her a rash around the mouth and a bit of a diaper rash too, but she outgrew that pretty quickly. If you're worried about your LO might digest something, just give small quantities to start.

Re: No no foods?

I give dd everything except nuts and honey. Everything else is fair game. Her liking it is another story, but I keep offering.

Edit. And no shellfish

Re: No no foods?

Thanks. Yeah, shellfish, some berries, citrus, peanuts, and honey I don't plan to try until 12 months.

The foods I mentioned I was worried about only bc their spices and taste are very intense, but I will have her try them.

Thanks! Chat Icon

I was given the okay for everything but honey at 9 months. I specifically asked about shellfish and peanuts and he said they were fine. As far as willingness to try different things, I'd say the earlier the better. DD would eat shrimp at 10 months and now at 2 she won't touch them.

Oh, this is good to know. DD loves fish so I have wanted to try shellfish but was afraid to this early. I'll try it tomorrow. We had shrimp last night so there are a few left over.

ETA: did you do the three day thing with shrimp? Or just one?

i think my ped is pretty conservative with this stuff but she told us no shellfish, eggs, fresh berries or nuts before 12 months. many of my friends got the okay to go ahead with these foods before 12 months.....i think in the end it's whatever you are comfortable with!
