Could the ovualtion kit be not accurate?

I got my smiley on 5/31...still no AF.
I tested and got negatives so I know I am not pregnant. I do have long cycles anywhere between 35 days to 43. I just don't think that the ovualtion kits have been accurate for me and that is our problem!

Well, if you are noticing that it's a pattern, you might have a longer LP. You might actually be ovulating when the kit says you are but having more than the "typical" 14 day LP. I put typical in quotes because it is actually a range, 11-18 days I believe is average... but I could be wrong.

I think I was in a similar situation. My cycle is between 28-36 days, very unpredictable. I thought using the OPKs would help me find my O date and maybe it has, but we haven't had success yet. The OPKs were saying I would O typically around CD12, which seems early with such a long cycle.

I talked to my OB at my annual last month (we've only been trying 5 months at this point) and she said with an unpredictable, sometimes long cycle like mine, she would suggest starting sex on CD 10 and going every other day until CD24.

I also ditched the OPKs this month. I felt like they were maybe an unneeded stressor and who knows if they are accurate or if I am even reading them correctly. I may go back to them, but for this cycle, we skipped it.

I feel like it's giving me my smiley like a day or 2 late sometimes... Just my experience

I would try to watch for other symptoms. It took many months with the opk to conceive DD and seven months this time around. After a while I got pretty good at predicting when it was coming so I would often test again in the evening and catch it earlier than I would have otherwise. You could also add in temping to be more sure.
