Starting Solids

Hey ladies,

My FF son is going to be 4 mo next month and I dont plan on starting solids until around 6 mo and he will start with veggies probably purees. Anyone start at 6 mo? did you do purees or did you do BLW?BLW kind of scares me so I think Im leaning more toward purees. Which veggies or foods did you start with? how many days did you use it for before moving on to another food?

Re: Starting Solids

We started DD at 6 months. Oatmeal was her first solid (I use the word 'solid' loosely since it was incredibly runny). After that, one at a time, we introduced orange purees (squash, carrots, and yams), then green (peas and string beans), then fruit (pears, prunes, bananas, and apples). We'd give her any new food for 3 consecutive days before trying another, new food. I tended to, sometimes, wait an extra day or two.

Starting Solids

We started dd at 5 months with oatmeal cereal. Did that a week and when she got the hang of it moved on to veggie purees (started with orange veggies first). Then moved on to fruit purees. Anything stage 1 is good. Just make sure to give the same thing for at least 3 days to watch for an allergic reaction. Them do the same each time you introduce something new and only introduce 1 new thing at a time.

We started at 4 months with avocado, string beans, bananas, apples, sweet potato, carrots and now on parsnips. We start a new food every 3 days. She likes eating at dinner time but I also offer her some in the morning. Yesterday was the first day she actually wanted it. I'll wait another month or two before we feed her 3 times a day. Good luck it os a lot of fun.

Re: Starting Solids

Started DD on solids just shy of 5 mos. We started with oatmeal and then a week later, started adding fruit to it. A month later started orange veggies, sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, then the green ones, peas (for some reason I haven't given her string beans yet and I have so many of those!).

At 7 mos, dr told me to start giving her meat, so I added those jars in. 7 1/2 mos, I sarted giving her water in a sippy and yogurt. She also gets pouches, both fruit and fruit/veggie combos, which she really enjoys. She's a really great eater and loves food, so we've been lucky *knock on wood.* She's basically eating 3 meals a day. I get worried sometimes that she's not drinking enough, but I guess it comes with the territory when they're eating more food, so don't be surprised when/if that happens. She's gaining, so that's all that matters.

In a couple of weeks when she turns 8 mos(!), I'm going to slowly start introducing table food, including pastina, small pieces of cooked chicken and turkey, string cheese, fruit/veggies.

It's a lot of fun starting solids. Messy, but so adorable! Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Starting Solids

We did both BLW & purees & cereal. I used single veggie/fruits at first then the pouch blends. Started @ 4.5 months but she really took off closer to 6m
