Pre implantation genetic diagnosis and ivf
Anyone have experience with PGD? I am the carrier of a rare genetic syndrome which I unknowingly passed to my child. I am interested in having another child but my insurance does not cover PGD or IVF. I was told I can submit a letter from my dr to the insurance company to ask them to make an exception for coverage. Has anyone had experience with PGD? Or appealing to their insurance? Thanks!

I just did PGD because of 3 consecutive losses. One of them was a chromosomal disorder at 20 weeks.
My insurance would not cover it. We had to pay nearly 5K out of pocket. I didn't try appealing to insurance because I was told they would not cover it.

I was told it would $25,000 for the PGD and IVF. There is no way I can afford that. I'm so sad. I thought that was our answer and really thought insurance would cover something. Very disappointing.

Where did you get the quote? You can try to get your meds donated which will alleve a huge amount of that cost. Unfortunately PGD is 5k no matter where you go, but since you have this genetic disorder I would definitely try and fight your insurance company on this one. Good luck!

I would definitely fight your insurance company. For the past four years I've needed a certain medication/treatment which was always denied so I had to pay for it out of pocket including a nurse to administer it. Well, it was finally just covered. Keep fighting and keep records of whoand when you speak to who! You definitely need to have your Dr. On your side as well.

North shore quoted me 5500 more than LI Ivf. Shop around unfortunately.
