Do you strictly follow the one hour rule for a bottle?

My DD isn't always finished with her bottle after an hour. I usually give her up to an hour and half to finish it. Do you strictly follow the one hour rule or are you a little flexible with it?

Ill go 1.5 hours I try not to go past that much.

I was very strict - one hour MAX. That was what the bottle/company said so I went with it.

I believe bacteria contamination starts to set in at that point. Not worth the risk given the mount of formula that would be left over.

never, not with either of my sons. But I'm pretty laid back with that stuff.

ill stretch it to 1.5 if at room temp indoors. i have inadvertently stretched it to 2 hours a few times when it takes 2 hours for dd to finish the same bottle( if she is fussy and needs to be burped a lot.)

As DS got older no. As a newborn yes.

We did the hr rule for tossing it. But for feeding we gave them a half hr to finish or it messed up their 3 hr schedule. The NICU had them on this schedule. They rarely had issues. Just as newborns.

Keep in mind if child taking too long to drink, it may be time to get next size nipple

I asked my pediatrician about this a while back. he said to think of it like, if it was a glass of milk sitting out - would YOU drink it? so if it's in a cool spot, yeah maybe you'd stretch it a little bit. if it's a warm day or in the car or something, maybe you wouldn't even go the hour. kwim?

I never save. If he doesn't finish i assume he is full and toss it. I always just make a new bottle if he gets hungry again.

Yes, I toss it after an hour. Actually, I usually toss it and move on as soon as DD stops drinking it even if she's left a lot (she rarely does) because a little while later is meal time.

Answers are kind of all over the place so I guess it's more of a personal comfort level thing. I already have her on the Fast nipple but she's always just been a slow eater. When she eats a bottle, she downs 3 oz. right away. Then she wants to wait. 30 minutes later she has 2 more ounces. 30 minutes later she has 2 more ounces. So it's 7 oz. total but can sometimes take more than an hour to finish. This especially happens if we need to go somewhere in the car, taking more time in between her "sessions". DS1 yes. More so as a baby. DS2 no. Lol

Just more laid back. Plus, as long as the house is cool and comfy. If it was hot in the house or even outside then less than an hour.
