Flumist instead of a shot anyone? (6 year old)
DD who just turned 6 few weeks ago is supposed to get a flu shot tomorrow, that's the only shot she gets now until she is 11, but she is terrified of getting shots, has a meltdown each time. So I just remembered that they also have a nasal spray flu vaccine instead of a shot and was thinking of asking the ped to give it to DD. I read it's from 2 yrs old. Just wondering if anyone's child has ever gotten one and if any reactions VS the shot . I'm trying to read up on it now, but wanted feedback from parents. Thank you

DD is 3 and got the mist yesterday. She cried a little because I think it was shocking to have a mist sprayed up her nose but was over it quickly. They said she might be a little sniffly but it's been over 24 hours and nothing yet.

Just know the flu mist is a live vaccine vs the shot that is dead

Both of mine got the mist last year (3 & 6 yrs old). They cried a bit, but it was def easier than the shot.

Re: Flumist instead of a shot anyone? (6 year old)
My older DD is terrified of shots...but she did not have a good experience from the spray a few years ago when they ran out of the shot. We only do the shot. The spray has slightly more potential for side effects. How does yout chilf do with something sprayed up her nose? They can't blow their nose for a bit. My dd was very upset and hysterical with the spray. She tried to blow it back out. She does better with sprays now at 6. She had some headache with the spray. No side effects of the shot.
The spray I think is the 4 component this year...the shot is either 3 or 4 component.

Both my DS's get the shot (5.5 and 2.5) honestly everyone I know IRL who had had hte kids get the shot, the kids have gotten pretty sick so we stick with the shot.
