Silly disagreement with DH

Ok... it's so stupid and was a stupid fight, but here it goes.
For the holidays we were at a family friend's house. The boy there had those cool racetracks on the wall. DS is 4 yrs old and LOVES racecars. That kept him occupied all night.
Next day since DH was home bc of the holiday we were just hanging out. My 2 yr old was napping and I decided to workout in the basement. DH comes down and says he wants to go get the toy for DS that he loved last night. I asked why and he said bc DS loved it and loves cars. I got annoyed (I have my period too and just moody) and we got in a silly argument over it. First off I know it's the holidays so he didn't need to run out. We were going to temple later then his parents were coming and then dinner at my parents. I am home with the boys all day. They have tons of toys and I am all about rewarding for good behavior. DS hasn't been 100% good lately. I do a sticker chart with him, he gets in trouble for not cleaning up and I took away his phone bc he hasn't been staying in his bed all night. THat was another thread I put about him waking at 3AM and winding up on our floor to sleep. I also thought they have so many toys we first need to get rid of and would be a good gift for Hanukkah. DH disagrees and just wanted to go get it. He does that though. He was bored so wanted to play a new toy with DS. I work from home in the kitchen with the computer. WE have a den with some toys and we take breaks to go in the basement for all the toys, then go outside for fresh air and exersize, etc. Then I go back to work so they do some tv, games, toys, music, etc. I don't want to fight with DS too about him just wanting to play the new racetrack in the basement all day.

DH still doesn't get what the big deal is about waiting for a holiday or for a big reward he deserved. They are plenty spoiled between grandparents (whom BTW came over for the holidays and got them books that they loved and kept them entertained), birthdays they had recently and holidays or just because we have more than we need.

I agree with you. I think my DH would as well.

On a side note, can you please add a link to what the racetrack toy was? It sounds cool!

LOL! I know it really was and DS loved it. Like I said... Hanukkah, which happens to be super early this year. He can't wait a month?! That's DH. Hard to shop for him bc when he wants something he just goes and gets it.

I believe this is the one and it was pretty cool...

well you already clearly see both sides.
DH is bored with your toys and HE wanted it so that he could play with your ds
and it sounds like to you this is a discipline/values issue and that you feel randomly getting the toy is spoiling without rewarding or teaching anything.
i get both sides and dh being an adult, i would expect him to wait. i agree that it is better to "teach"...
however, if dh is accustomed to being spoiled and spoiling DS, he's not going to want to wait himself, KWIM?
and not to sound weird, im honestly curious, but why does your 4 year old have a phone? did you mean toy phone? if not, what does he do with the phone? does he talk/text to other 4 year olds? or family members? or is it for games?

LOL! No... DH's old phone that has some apps he plays with. I think it's the Iphone 3 or something we put in a fisher price case that locks the volume and off buttons. He has some educational and coloring apps, etc on there. He also uses the ebooks. NO number, email or texting. He gets it out sometimes and plays games or watches movies.
DH really doesn't just go out and get him toys any time. Some little things once in a while, but not getting him toys whenever. I meant DH gets things he wants for himself. He's into electronics.

ROFL- I was thinking the same thing. (Erica- I saw your response Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon)

ETA: I agree with you- it should be saved for a special occasion. I'm pretty bad with things like this myself though. I'm always sooo tempted to buy new toys and games for them for no reason. I try to hold myself off though Chat Icon

I just want to add that we had the same racetrack and it broke off the wall in about a day! Chat Icon It took a while for DH to put up and after it broke we haven't gotten around to putting it back up- kind of a pain! Not really worth the money IMO.

First off, I am shocked that he would put that on the wall, Chat Icon . DS has been wanting that toy since it came out and DH refuses to get it since you stick it to the wall.

Anyway, I agree with you in that he should be rewarded for good behavior but at the same time I know your DH doesn't buy him things often, because of that I would let it go. You can add to it and that could always be a gift for the holidays.

Re: Silly disagreement with DH

While I dont disagree with you, I dont disagree with your husband either.

Sometiems I think its nice to get something JUST BECAUSE. We do it with our DSs sometimes. In fact that race track, MIL just got it for DS1 the other day when he slept over her house.

DH (and myself too) have been known to get DS a toy because WE think its cool.

Re: Silly disagreement with DH

Thanks for the responces. Like I said... it was just a silly argument and was done with. I was just more annoyed bc we just had an hour or so to spare before my in-laws were coming over then head to temple then my parent's house. I felt it was silly to run out to get a toy for his to play with for 5 mins (if he even had time because we had a busy day). I keep the kids entertained all day and work. I also have my period too and for some reason small things were setting me off. I think family holidays do that too. LOL
I also want to add that I do get the boys toys once in a while just because. Nothing crazy, but if they're being good and we are out and something is reasonable. Like I said... it was a bad time to just say let's get a toy for DS because he was bored with the toys at the time. Both boys recently had birthdays (June and July) so there was still plenty new.
DH and I don't fight very often and I wouldn't even consider it a fight.
JerseyGirl - You know DH and how he gets. Oh, and the track would be on the basement wall or considering the bar wall bc we hate that bar and will eventually rip it out. I want yours! LOL

Re: Silly disagreement with DH

My DH buys something for DS every time he enters a store. Actually, I'm not much better, so I can see his side. But you are right in the long run.
