5 Month Old Feeding Questions
DD is 23 weeks old and has been breast fed since birth. She has been HUGE - 95th percentile + in height and weight since 2 months old. At 4 months she was taking 30 oz per day and was still hungry so we started fruit, veggies and oatmeal cereal after that. She has dropped a few oz since then but still at her 5 month appt was a whopping 18 lb, 15 oz and 26.5 inches long. The Ped suggested starting her on meats now! Does that sound insane?? The Ped also said we should try cutting out the dream feed but she sleeps so well I'm afraid to do it.

5 Month Old Feeding Questions
My son is 5 and half months...also eats alot, he was 16 lbs at his 5 month check up 2 weeks ago and he didn't mention anything about starting him on meals. He said if he is still hungry up the jars of baby food or give him more oatmeal/rice. IF your not comfortable with something i wouldnt do it

Re: 5 Month Old Feeding Questions
dd2 is 5 months old and we have not started foods yet just b/c I haven't haha. In a sick visit 1 week ago she was 16 lbs.
dd1 started at 4 months solids but meat i didn't unitl she was almost 1 and could feed herself, shredded real chicken. I don't do jarred meats or puree meats myself. I think it's gross so I wouldn't give it to her hahaha.
5 months sounds VERY young for meats. Cereal and fruits and veggies, yes. snacks, meats no.imo
You don't have to do anything you don't want to.
dd2 does not eat through he night anymore. Are you sure she needs that extra bottle?

Re: 5 Month Old Feeding Questions
DS was always a big eater, but it doesn't show in his weight. He's only about 70th percentile for weight, but 80th for height.
Anyway, for a while he was taking closer to 40 oz per day. The dr said it was fine because he needed it. At almost 5 months we started food and he dropped down to about 31 or 32 oz per day. We started meats at 6 months. I don't think meats keeps him any fuller than fruits or veggies. And I wouldn't add meats until 6 months at least.
How many meals are you giving DC a day? I wouldn't worry about how much your DD weighs since she'll start to walk and burn most of that off. Babies grow fast and if they're hungry you should feed them!
I would also drop the dream feed. At 5 months she should be able to get all her calories in during the day. What time does she go to sleep? What time was the dream feed? How many bottles is she getting a day?

She goes to bed between 8 and 830pm (closer to 8 these days). The dream feed is around 1030pm and she usually takes down the whole thing. She sleeps from 8pmish to 8amish so I'm really nervous that dropping the dream feed will mess that up!! Including the dream feed she gets 5 bottles.

I wouldn't rush to add meats if you are not comforatable with it. There is no right or wrong with adding in foods...its when you want to.
As for the dream feed....At that age and since there isn't a weight issue I would drop it. My DS is tiny and stopped bottles in the middle of the night by 4 months. And he was only getting them then because he was up screaming.

Re: 5 Month Old Feeding Questions
We dropped the dream feed at about 5months by adding the ounces to his other 4 bottles.... did not change his sleep at all!
DS was 16 lbs 4oz at 4 month visit, home weighed at 5 months we think he was 18 lbs. He is in the 75% (boys tend to be bigger). He was eating 30 oz per day from 2 months until 5 months. He eat 30-32oz a day now and a fruit and a veggie. We have his 6 month visit friday.
