Re: What kind of activities do your 9-11 month olds do in day care?

My baby entered day care at that age, he was in high chair all day because in room with 3 year Olds didn't want them to step on him so we switched to a center at 12 months that had several rooms by age he is still in baby room but going to move up soon (19 months now] the younger ones have age appropriate toys-bouncers and Walkers, they go for walks outside, they sing and listen to music ..I don't think they do art that young, he only recently started bringing art home :)

They have nap time in afternoon but the younger ones sometimes need sleep sooner, my place doesn't have separate room with cribs so that must be hard to sleep through if need early nap

My place follows the child's schedule until 18 mos. she starts in3 weeks, at age 9 mos so I can't say what she does exactly, but there is a schedule that rotates gross motor, fine motor, language, and music activities. And lots of age-appropriate toys in the room. She will be with 6-12 month olds.

My ds has been in daycare since 8 weeks and at that age they have toys. They do art. They napped on their schedule. Walks in the stroller and ds was walking so he would walk and play on the playground.

I have to say I hated that part of the daycare. The infant room really is 6 weeks to about 16 months. They do separate the older babies, but it's still tough. I know the teachers do everything they can to keep the LO's entertained.... Music, doing fine and gross motor skill activities, some type of artwork, which really was lots of handprints ans pictured. Lol. They help working on bottle holding, crawling, walking, playing blocks, etc
I don't think there was any nap or eating schedule. It was what you told them. They needed to know when the next bottle would be and obviously fed lunch ans snacks when needed.
I just loved it so much more when DS was about 16 months and moved to the next class which really had a much more structured schedule.

Eta... Didn't mean for it to sound like I hated it, but at that age it wasn't as structured an harder to learn since there's a huge diffence between 3 months and 11 - 12 months, but they're in the same room.

This really depends on the place because all the places I looked at had them separated. 6w-6 mon, 6 mon-12m and 12-18m. It wasn't a hard rule of age but it stayed very close.

True. One on LI did have an infant A and infant B room. When I moved and went to a smaller daycare thy didn't, but they did bring the older infants to the "woddler" room a lot. That does help.

Re: What kind of activities do your 9-11 month olds do in day care?

DS started daycare this month and he is almost 11 mos and put in the 1-2 year old room. In Sept all the current kids will move up to the next class, so he is with all 2 yr olds right now.

They have one nap time, 12-2:30, but DS typically takes 2 naps so he's in an adjustment phase right now. On weekends he takes a later morning nap than he used to, and usually 2 per day still. I honestly don't know how they keep him awake with just one nap!

Activities for his class include water table play, reading, playing with toys, cars, dolls, kitchen, they go on 2 walks per day in strollers. They have a set schedule and keep them occupied. He also eats on the schedule they set.

He's been in daycare for 3 weeks and already noticed a marked different in his development & interest in walking. They definitely keep him occupied!

The transition to one nap is tough. DS did it when he moved to the 12-18month room and for the first week he was falling alseep in his lunch. After that he was great. I don't know how they do it but they really do know how to make the transititon for the kids.

You will see a big change if he is with older kids. My DS always makes big changes when he is the youngest in the room. When he moved to the 18-24m room he came home talking up a storm!!!! After a few days I wanted to send him back down a classroom so I could have a day or two without the talkingChat Icon Chat Icon

In our daycare the room from 6-12 months has two specified nap times from 10-12 and 2-4. They will adjust if necessary for the child's schedule.

They did a circle time in there where they would read/sing songs/etc but, it was a lot more free play and exploring at that age. They also do a buggy ride at least once a day.

My daycare is similar to alli3131s that they have separate rooms for each 6 month increment - 6w-6m, 6-12m, 12-18m, 18m-2y, etc. Sometimes kids move early based on advancement and enrollment.
