Making your own baby food

I'm currently pregnant and working on my registry. I would like to eventually make my own baby food. Any recommendations on which system to register for? Thank you in advanced!

I had no problems with the Baby Bullet and the steamer. Great results.

I just used our steamer and the Braun hand blender.

Hated the baby bullet-- motor was not strong enough and eventually burned out. I had better luck with my regular food processor.

I love my cuisinart one. I chose it over others for several reasons:

1) you can steam in the same unit (I don't have amicrowave so this was big for me). I also wanted to make sure I incorporate the steamed water int the food, as nutrients seep into it while cooking.

2) the container is bigger than most others so you can make bigger batches and freeze

3) all the other makers seemed to have a lot of reviews complaining about the motor. This is cuisinart, which is known for being a workhorse in the kitchen.

So far, I am extremely happy with my choice.

i steamed the food in a regular pot with a metal colander inside, then used a regular blender to mix it all. Froze everything in BPA free ice cube trays with lids and then transferred the cubes into ziplock bags.

So glad I didn't buy any baby-specific system because DS started on mush at 6 months and is basically done with it already (at 10 months). Would've been a big waste of money for us.

I just got some small containers and the ice cube trays. I use my regular pots and stuff to steam/puree the veggies and fruits.

I've also discovered its a lot MORE expensive to make certain organic baby foods. So it's just easier and more cost effective to buy some things (berries) and make others (peas). As a working mom, its easier to use some jars vs. having fresh stuff always at home with time to prepare it.

I don't expect to be doing this for too long so I'm glad I didn't spend too much either.

I use Baby Breza to make DD's food. I like that I can set it to steam and puree. I pop everything in and am totally done. I don't have to watch the time. I don't have to puree anything. The machine does it all and turns off on its own.

I had the baby bullet and it broke the first time I used it lol, so I returned it and just used my regular food processor. Like another poster said, they are usually on purees for only a few months, so if you are limited on kitchen space, or want to save a few $$, I'd suggest getting an "adult" food processor or blender and just using that.

I didn't register for it; but my neighboor bought us the Baby Bullet. It works really well. I've only been using it for about 2 months now. I steam the veggies/fruit in my own steamer; then puree it the Baby Bullet then like a prior poster; I freeze in the ice cube trays with a lid; and then transfer to zip lock bags.

I steam in the regular steam pot on the stove, grind with my Cuisinart and freeze it in BPA free ice cube trays for 1oz portions. I make huge batches and have food for 2 months or so. I now freeze in the oXo blocks and the Beaba silicone molds shaped like a bullet. They're 2 oz portions, since they now eat more.
At the beginning, I used to strain their food in a fine mesh strainer or Chinois. Now I leave it chunky. Good luck!
