if you could would you??

I was told at my next appt (10 weeks) that they are doing new types of blood work that will show a variety of testing results. Trisomy, and some others that will show any genetic abnormalities. It will also tell you the sex of the baby.

Would you at 10 weeks find out?

I want to know but the thought of holding out to 17 weeks or so gives me some excitement and anticipation to know what im having. Chat Icon
I know i will want not to be surprised but wonder if 10 wks is to early for me.

I don't think so. It's exciting finding out when you get the sono done. Just looking for it during the antomy scan builds up the anticipation IMO.

We were given this option and at the end, we decided to wait until the sono.

In dying to know! I'm a planner and would like to start planning for this LO. I have a DD, and if I'm having a Chat Icon then I don't need to redo the nursery. If I'm having a Chat Icon I'd like to start thinking of ideas, plus buying some boy things when I catch a good sale.

Re: if you could would you??

I had a CVS done and we found out the gender (well put it in an envelope)... we did a gender reveal party with a cake and our friends that was a lot more fun then just finding out at the sono machine with my hubby.

I had the MaterniT21 dome at 10 weeks just to make sure everything was ok since I am 35. We decided to stay team green so in big letters on my file it says no sex.

We had the Materni21 done as well. They saw something with the placental vein and said that could have been a marker for Down Syndrome and if we took the test we would have about a 90 percent chance knowing for sure. We took the test more to prepare ourselves. If it wasn't for that, we were not going to take any tests.

I would find out if I had the option- I have read that the MaterniT21 test is NOT 100% accurate for gender so if this is the test you are having done you may want to wait.

Hell yeah!

I'm a planner and would love as much time as possible to narrow down baby names and buy gender specific goodies for the baby!

Re: if you could would you??

We did find out with the maternity21 test. I wanted to stay team green- DH kind of wanted to find out. We had them write it down for us andnputnin an envelope. I didn't realize how thin the envelope was and I saw it. I was kind of bummed since I only thought I saw it but couldn't not look and MAYBE know. Chat Icon

As I understand it, it is at least 99%+ accurate.

Re: if you could would you??

We did pgd. I found out at 6wks when we saw heartbeats Chat Icon

etaL just reading through some comments, I wanted to add that our dr literally just looked in some paperwork in a folder, picked his head up, and told us - and it was still VERY exciting Chat Icon When I was pregnant many years ago (my baby who did not make it) we found out the gender at a 16wk sono and it was exciting - but finding out this way was just as cool. I wouldn't change a thing.

Re: if you could would you??

We found out at 12 weeks with the fish results of the cvs. Then the maternity 21 results came back and confirmed

I loved knowing when we did and still love knowing. We found out over the phone and my parents were here and everyone was crying (we also were veryyyy nervous waiting for tge results of cvs)

If they are doing the maternity21 test at 10 weeks they prob wont know till about 10 days to 2 weeks later the results

Re: if you could would you??

And also there is at this time no blood test that im aware of anyway that shows all genetic abnormalities. Only trisomy 13, 18 and Down's syndrome
The test up to 13 (sometimes 14) that tests for all genetic abnormalities is a CVS and that includes the FISH, regular chromosome testing, microarray and Noonans testing, these test results take weeks as the samples have to grow

After that at 16 they will start amnios to test for all of the above

With the cvs they take from the placenta and from you to distinguish between your cells and baby cells to try for no maternal confusion

I wish there was a blood test that tested for all but it does make sense with having to take from you and baby.
It is such a complex science

Re: if you could would you??

Nope. I'm not, and couldn't be Chat Icon but I'd rather wait and find out at the 20w sonogram when I can see the baby.
