How old was your child when you first took them to the movies?
And how did they do?
We're thinking of taking DS who is a bit over 2 to see Planes. We would go during the weekday. Wondering if he's too young.
Also, did you buy or bring snacks?

Dh just took our 2.5 to see despicable me a couple weeks ago. He did pretty well- they went with another father/son and I think that helped because the other boy is a bit older so my son was kind of watching him for cues
and yes, I sent him armed with enough snacks to sink a ship lol

We went to see Monsters University. He sat for a little over an hour but, was done (and there were 30 minutes of previews first). He told me he didn't like the dark place and wanted to go home to watch the movie.

Re: How old was your child when you first took them to the movies?
My DH just took my DS to see Monsters U. He's 26 months. DH said he did great. They went to the first show on a Sat morning a few weeks after the movie came out so it was not crowded. I had also warned DH to not go in until the movie started.
We are planning to take him to see Planes in a few weeks. We'll do the same thing, wait a few weeks and go first thing on a Sat.

Re: How old was your child when you first took them to the movies?
2.5 for DS 1 we took him to cars 2 he made an hour and half and then we left. He has been to Several movies since that. DS 2 was 2 we saw monster U and sat pretty much for the whole thing. We just took him to see despicable me 2 and he fell asleep for a half hour and was fine for the rest of it.
We bought snacks for there first experience to make it special. We usually bring snack, drink and buy popcorn.

How old was your child when you first took them to the movies?
Haven't tried yet and DS turned 3 in June. He's never watched a full movie before at home (though he's watched DVDs that were about an hour or TV for a few hours at a time) so I'm not sure how attentive he'll be.

Took DS right before he turned 3 and he didn't really last that long (Cars 2 was a LONG movie so it wasn't a good one to start with!). DD will be 2 next month and I don't think she will do very well, she won't even watch TV at home!! I'll be waiting another year probably!

How old was your child when you first took them to the movies?
8m and it was great! LOL
Then not again until 2.5 and it wasn't that good. Then again at 3 which was fine and ever since she's been good. Took her to see Despicable Me 2 last weekend and Turbo the weekend before.
She loves to go watch movies on the big big screen
ETA: we pack her up. Dress her in long pants and bring her blanket as well as her ‘towel’ (aka lovie). I put a zip lock bag of almonds and pretzels in my purse along with two Hershey kisses and a juice box. We take her early enough to sit in a place that is not ALL the way up front but the first level up on stadium seating in front of railings we have so we can escape easily for bathroom breaks without having to walk in front of others, it also means she gets an unblocked view if she lays down on our laps and I don’t feel craned with my neck.
That's been our routine since she was out of diapers. Her first movie to watch completely without interruption, no bathroom breaks just GLUED was Yellow Submarine. She wasn't too excited about how to train your dragon, got scared in Croods but stayed for turbo and DM2. MU will be in the next few weeks.

Re: How old was your child when you first took them to the movies?
3. One of my dds was fine the other got antsy towards the end but I think that's also cause you have to sit through so many previews
I brought snacks and bought water there but you could even bring your own drink

Re: How old was your child when you first took them to the movies?
DS was almost 2 1/2. He did great, but he always sat to watch tv, etc.
DD was a little under 3. She was a little antsy n her seat, but did fine.
ETA - we brought lunch/snacks!

2.5 and it didn't go well at all.... we had to leave early.
DS is 4.5 now and have been taken him to see a lot of movies over the last few months now and he has been doing great so far.

Re: How old was your child when you first took them to the movies?
I took my 2.5 year old DS to see Monsters U. Epic failure. He barely sits at home for more than 30 minutes for a movie/tv so I should have realized he wouldn't sit for a movie. And I also should have realized they show 10 different previews before a kids movie. He didn't last after the short film on umbrellas.
