when did you switch to big boy bed?

Ds is only 2, so not trying to rush it...but he DOES move all over the bed in his sleep. Want to know how long we have before we can expect to make that big purchase.

At that age i hadmy son in a toddler bed with a guard. By 3-4 he was in a twin size. With my daughter she was in twin w side gaurd at 2..my kids were not fans of their cribs..always did better in big beds.

We just ordered a twin bed for DS, he is 2 years 2 months. Part of the reason is so that we can move our younger DS, who will be 4 months old this week, into the crib. He is still in the rock and play in our room but he is now definitely to big and needs to be moved into his own room. If we didn't have a younger child, we would probably try to push the crib closer to 3. He has never tried to climb out of it, and seems perfectly content in there.

2 3/4 and only b/c we needed his mattress for the twins. He was sleeping fine in his crib but actually sleeps better in his bed now. We converted his crib to a full b/c we weren't using the crib for the twins.

my son always hated the crib, he only slept through the night when we put him in a bed. So at 2 we bought him a full size bed for his room and has slept in it since.

Thank you ladies. We switched him to toddler at about 1.5 so it's very soon but he moves alot in his sleep and I just think he might be happier. I have a full size bed in my guest room, but I think maybe we will just look into getting a new bed for him...maybe that can be a christmas gift.

DS1 was 2y8m. We only moved him out because he is pretty tall and was really getting squised. With his pillow in the crib he was touching 3 sides while sleeping.

DS2 is now 2y3m. I have no intention to move him anytime soon. I will probably wait until after 3 if possible because I dont think DS2 is going to be as easy to transition as DS1 was.

Both my boys are movers and shakers when sleeping. I wake up at least 1x a night hearing one of them crash pretty hard into a wall or crib railing. lol

ETA: just read you are already in a toddler bed. DS1 went straight from crib to twin bed. DS2 will do the same when the time comes.

DS#1 - moved from the crib to the bed at almost 4. He loved his crib and was very content.

Ds#2 - 3.5 we are trying to move him from our bed to his own. He has been in ours since 14 months

Both of my girls got their beds on their 3rd birthdays.

we made the switch at 3, when my second was born and we needed the crib. I made a big deal about it....gave him the bed as a birthday present, etc.
Going into a bed is a whole new set of worries, so I say as long as he's still comfy in there and has enough room, keep him in as long as you can!

We got DD a big girl bed at 2 since that was when we had DD2. We just have a regular twin sized bed for her.

Ds already jumped out of his crib at 1 1/2....so we switched to toddler bed. He will be going into a twin bed with rails in about 2 months - so 20 months If he didn't jump out we would have kept him in the crib longer, but he hurt himself one time he fell so goodbye crib!

DS is 3 and we're moving to a big boy bed in a few weeks. He never climbed out of his crib which is why we kept him in there for so long. The only reason we're moving him at this point is because we are moving to a new house in 3 weeks and figured this is the perfect time for the transition.

Plus I need the crib for the baby coming in November.

We switched my son at 2.5, but only because we needed to transition him out of the crib for the babies on the way. I was so nervous about it, but he did great from day one! He has never gotten out of bed on his own and calls for us in the morning to go get him.
