Talk to me about the logistics of flying with kids

We've never been on vacation with the kids where we had to fly.

We'll be going on our first trip on a plane as a family in the spring, and I have no clue how it works, so anyone with experience, please, please help. I have tons of questions.

1) Stroller - DS is almost 5, DD is 2. We plan on bringing her stroller. Will they let me take it on the plane with us and check it? I can't imagine trying to manuever in the airport carrying her or making her walk.

2) Carseats - I did not intend on bringing one. Do I need to bring one for DD? or can she just sit by herself in her seat on the plane? Also, if we don't need her carseat, once we get to the airport, do you just let your kids go into the shuttle/car service, etc. without a car seat? This makes me a little nervous. We aren't renting a car bc we plan to stay on the resort the whole time.

I'm planning on bringing activity books, little toys, etc. and my Ipad to keep them entertained during the flight.

any other tips or suggestions?

Take your stroller with you and check it at the gate. It will be there waiting for you when you deboard the plane.

Carseat... My 1st flight with DS having his own seat (he's 2) will be tomorrow. I purchased the CARES harness and will attach it to the seat. Weighs less than 2 lbs. I have arranged for a taxi with a car seat to take us to our hotel once we have landed.

All entertainment items are great as well as maybe 1 "new" toy for them each to play with. Snacks too!

Also, it never dawned on me to try to call in advance to get a car with a carseat from the airport to the hotel. Duh!!

We did this when we went to aruba with jacen- had a taxi reserved with a car seat in advance.

Bring plenty of snacks, lollipops (sucking helps with descent) and check your stroller at the gate (they tag it and then you leave it right before you step on the plane).
