99% of the time they go to my moms house. When we go out, we are out for the night and its easier for everyone if my kids sleep over mom's house

Neither. MIL has never watched the kids !! 
This. And since I have never met her I'm not hopeful this will ever change. My mom passed away when DS was 6 months old. If we manage to find a sitter, they will usually come here. Last time we had a sitter it was arranged 6 months in advance and it was for a wedding. DS goes everywhere with us.

If we are going to be late, they watch them here or bring them back here after they go out. But we live two blocks away, so it's not a big deal either way.

9 out of 10 times they sleep at either my parents or my in-laws. They have been doing it since day one so it doesn't disrupt their routine. They actually look forward to it bc they get spoiled rotten and DH and I get to have a romantic night.
They would come to our home if we asked, but it is a win win for everyone. Kids get to bed at their normal time and get spoiled, we don't have to watch the clock and neither do our parents.

Quick poll about DC when you and DH go out...
Whatever my mom or MIL prefer - their choice since they are doing us the favor.
MIL prefers to come here and will just sleep over if we get in passed midnight (which rarely happens these days). She will be moving in a month and has mentioned to us that she would like to have us drop him off at her new place sometimes when we need her to watch him.

They are already doing us a favor by taking care of DC, why would we put them out of their way?

Quick poll about DC when you and DH go out...
If we are just going out the two of us and it is strictly a dinner/movie type thing, they come to us. But if we have a wedding or other event, or we are going out with friends- which usually includes alcohol and a very late night- he sleeps over. DC # 2 is due in 6 weeks, and he will be 4 months old the first time he sleeps at my inlaws for my BFF's wedding.

At night, my parents always come to my house. They how strongly we feel about not disrupting DS bedtime routine.
They have asked in the past if DS could spend the night at their house if we are going to be late, but we always so no. We want DS in his own bed. He's only 2.5yo... when he's older we may consider it, but for now, he sleeps at home.

We never really go out without them. The once or twice we have, my sister watched them and then brings them back to sleep at home. i feel like I have to get back in time to relieve her.
I say let them stay there. You get to go out and know they are safe. They get the experience and memories of sleeping at grandmas/grandpas. You can come home and have the rest of the night with your husband, no interruptions. You can also wake up at your own desire.
All of these things are rare and foreign to me, and now i am jealous. So I say just go for it. While we all love routines and schedules, it is also good that they adapt to change.

we do both, depending on our plans and how late we will get home. If we will be home before midnight they will usually come to us and go home when we get home. If it will be a late night, DS will sleep at their house so they dont have to stay up and so we can get a smidge more sleep the next morning. We are rarely out late though, maybe once every other month.

My inlaws insist that every time DH and I want to go out for the night that we drop the kids to their home, which ends up with the kids having to spend the night at their home because if we are out late, it doesn't make sense to wake the kids up (they go to ebd at 7)...
Just curious if I'm being crazy just asking them to come to my house so the kids can sleep in their own bed.
My parents do the same thing.  Totally annoying but, it's free babysitting. So I don't complain.
When my aunt sits she comes here becuase he has all of his toys and will be more comfortable here

Both. I LOVE when the kids sleep at IL's. We have our night, dont have to worry about what time to get home, the kids love it! Then we miss them in the mroning so we go get them

When my parents watch DD she always sleeps over their house, and personally, I love it. They only live 15 minutes away so it's not an inconvenience for us.
