Help me convince DH to drive to Myrtle Beach!

I really want to go to Myrtle Beach for spring break! We went last year, but we flew down. This year the flights are much more expensive and I flat out refuse to spend almost $2000 to fly there. I really don't think the drive will be awful, but I can't seem to get DH on board. I was thinking of leaving on a Friday afternoon, getting at least half (hopefully more) of the driving done, stop at a hotel, and finish in the morning. It sounds totally manageable to me. What else can I tell DH to try to convince him? Share your road trip experiences please!

I used to do this when we were kids. We would drive to virginia beach and next day to myrtle beach.

Spring break though? Will it be warm enough?

My family used to take trips down to Myrtle Beach a lot. I can't remember if we drove down in one shot or if we took two days. However, I like a long car ride -- especially if you make some new playlists, get some snacks, etc. I would check to see if it would be warm enough as a pp said!

The weather was a mixed bag last year during spring break. The first day was probably 80+ and we had a great time at the beach. Then it was mid to high 70s for a few days. Definitely nice enough to be at the pool every day. Then the last two days were cool and rainy.

We just drove during Christmas. My DD is 4 years old. Instead of taking the 13 hours it usually does it took us 16 but wasn't bad, honest. We stopped 3 times, two to eat and 1 for the bathroom. Any questions, just ask


PS. We flew last Christmas but I HATE Spirit!!

We did it all the time growing up! Loved it...

Did it this past summer with 6 month old twins!!!! We would do it again, too. That should convince him right there that it's doable ;)

I've done it lots of times. Sometimes stopping in VA and other times driving right through. With kids i would do a stop over. It's not bad at all. I only had one bad experience and that was weather related. If you can leave here after rush hour around 8 and check into hotel over night this way your kids will stay sleeping and you can get a few hours of rest.

We have done it with our three kids. We are doing it again this spring break. It's really not bad at all. We also stooped in VA, but we might just go right through this time.

We go every year to SC on vacation and drive. We have done the trip with the youngest being 9mos at the time. Its long, but its TOTALLY doable. Sometimes we stop at the top of NC and make it a two day trip, but if we get there and feel like we can still keep going we do. It is really not that bad.

We have been driving down to Myrtle beach since I was 10 and my sister was 6. A lot of the time we drive through the night to avoid traffic. If you leave at like 2AM you can make it there in the 12 hours, but if you leave at prime time it will take longer. You can stop along the way, we've never done it because we always just wanted to get there. Bring plenty of activities for your children! Its really not that bad of a drive but I've grown to hate Virginia since its the longest state you drive through! HAHA. Good luck!

We have driven down there about 5 times. Its not a bad ride. The last time we went we drove straight threw. Once DH got to tired. I drove the rest of the way. (I got sleep before we left so I could drive) In total it took us 12 hours with multiple stops. Its the best way with no traffic. In years past we stopped in Virginia and stayed overnight and left in the am.

we drove there all the time when i was younger with my parents, and DH and I drove a few times before we started flying there (although, when we have more LO's in the future it will def be cheaper to drive). It will take you about 11-12 hours with just short stops. We usually left early, like 4am and got there by 4 in the afternoon.

that is exactly what we did - We left about 6:30 - had the boys in theri PJs, they fell asleep, we stopped about 1 am - got back on the road at 6am, stopped for breakfast about 9:00 and got to Myrtle about noon.

The ride down wasn't bad, the ride homw was longer b/c Sean was sick

Pre-child, we always drove down because we took our dogs (my mom lives in Surfside Beach). Now that I have Ann, she & I fly down and he drives himself with the dog.


ETA: We've never stayed at a hotel, always drive straight through (but only did it twice with Ann when she was under 1 yr).

We've done this trip many times. It usually takes us 10-12 hours. It's not that bad, we always stop along the way and usually take turns driving.
