stomach virus??
UGH!!! DD was hit with what I am assuming is the stomach virus last night. She basically threw up all night. What can I expect today? I am trying to have her take it easy with food and activity but that is hard with a 2 year old :( Should I expect another day/night of puking? diarrhea? or is it just 24 hours? Any and all advice is appreciated! TIA

Re: stomach virus??
She may not really want to eat today but definitely keep her hydrated, water, pedialyte, Gatorade. Whatever you can get into her. Also only follow the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, AppleSauce, Toast).
She may throw up again but it's important to keep her hydrated.

Thank you! She keeps asking for milk but I know that is a no no!!! I am giving her apple juice cut in half with water. She definitely wants to drink more than eat but I am afraid to give her too much too quickly. She seems to be feeling a little better today!

stomach virus??
I feel your pain, DS had the same last night. He was up all night, and I am literally operating on an hour of sleep. I felt so bad for him- all he was up every hour. I agree with the poster above about keeping them hydrated. I hope your little one feels better.

I am so sorry your DS is sick also It was horrible last night. DD has never really been sick before and it is horrible. I feel helpless. We are all exhausted! I hope your son feels much better soon

Re: stomach virus??
Apple juice is a big no no could make diarrhea worse. If you need to give juice try white grape. Pedialyte is good too. My ped says those two, broths and very very weak decafe tea. Gateraid.
Start slow. If she is hungry try crackers, rice, well cooked plain steeam carrots, chicken broth, beef broth with rice, over ripe bananas (lots of brown on the outside under ripe or just yellow ones can cause diarrhea).

Re: stomach virus??
Don't give her too much juice. Try flavored pedialyte, Cheerios, crackers and toast.

Re: stomach virus??
Thank you for all the advice I have pedialyte and will give her that - do you give it to them watered down or not ( I have the powder packets)? DD has never had anything but milk or water.

Re: stomach virus??
When my DS had it recently...he vomited for 6 hours. Then had diareaha (i cant spell) for almost a week!!! Just beware we were all contagious for at least 2 weeks...we gave it to so many people
I gave him pedialite straight. I started with a medicine dropper full of it to make sure he could keep it down then progressed to a half a cup etc. He had only had water in the past but was more than willing to drink it because he was so thirsty.
We followed the BRAT diet until the diarehea stopped.

stomach virus??
We were all hit with it today too. First me, then Dh and then DD. she has only thrown up 2x and is sleeping now so I'm hoping that's it for her. It's passed for me but DH is still suffering since he started later. This is coming off last weeks viral throat infection. Ugh

Do not water down the pedialyte they needs the electrolytes. Just follow the directionsI think it is basically one packet with one small bottle of water. Just give it slowly at first if she is vomiting. Ped told me about one ounce at a time after no vomiting for 30-60 mins. If you give too much at once you will make her worse. If she is having just diarrhea you can give it all at once bc you want to replace fluids. The key is to take it easy and not rush the foods or liquids bc you don't want to relapse. It is more important to get liquids in at first moreso than the solids. Try broths if she is okay with liquids but not solids since they have a little protein in them.

Re: stomach virus??
Thank you again to everyone She did a little better today - no vomitting (knock on wood) since last night. She did not have any diarrhea today (again knock on wood) she was not much into eating at all and I had her drink some gatorade and pedialyte today She ate some banana, cheerios and a few crackers but that was really it She took a really long nap and is already passed out (hopefully for the night) Her temperature is a little all over the place but nothing above a 100 (again knock on wood) I hope everyone gets better soon. This stomach bug is a b itch!!!! especially since this is the first time she has really ever been sick
