Would you let your child do the polar bear plunge?
I just saw some pictures from Newsday. It looked like there were a few kids (maybe 8-12) that did the polar bear swim.
Would you let your DC do it?

Would you let your child do the polar bear plunge?
Not at this age (16mos) but after 6 I probably would.

Around 8+, yes. Altough I still think it is insane so I certainly wouldn't encourage it.

8+ years old, I would allow it. I wouldn't want them going in too deep, maybe waist or less, but then again they probably wouldn't want to go much more then that anyway.

At that age I would let them if they wanted to.

No I wouldn't kids are more likely to get hypothermia. If they want to as an adult fine but that is not something I can see is beneficial to them as a child. Then again I love to swim but can't figure out why anyone would want to do it in the first place..but each to his own. I don't love the cold.

My 12 year old would absolutely do it in a heartbeat... I would have no problem with it! Probably not before he was 9 or so. My kids are very strong ocean swimmers, so my big concern would be the cold was of the water.

I have a friend who lives in Wisconsin who's 5 year old is going to be doing it. Their family does it every year and CJ really wants to do it. So, the organization doing it has someone designated that will be in the water waiting to her and get her immediately out to the team to wrap her up. In that case, yes, I would, but if there wasn't this type of setup in place then no.

Sure, but they'd have to be older - maybe middle school age.

Re: Would you let your child do the polar bear plunge?
My 6 year old niece did it yesterday. She loved it! She wasn't allowed to play in the ocean -- in and out. She also raised over $1,000. I give her credit for following through on her commitment even though we kept giving her the out!
