Transition to Sippy/Straw help and recoomedation
DD is 13.5 months, I am trying to wean her off the bottle and onto straw cups as per the ped's recommendation...
She takes 1-2 straw /sippy cups a day of milk and drinks some of it but she spits it out while she is drinking!!! I cant tell if she does it on purpose bc she thinks its fun, if the cup is defective, or if she just doenst know how to use it properly. because sometimes there is no mess and other times its like the milk just comes gurgling right out of her mouth while she is drinking!!
Anyone else experience this? I use the NUBY straw cups.. any recs for a non leaky cup that your DC likes?
I should add I still gibe her a bottle at night and in the am bc although she is not attached to teh bottle.. I am =) Its my quiet time with her.. I wonder if I am confusing her by using both the bottle and the cup.. like maybe she is trying to drink from the cup the same way she sucks from a bottle and that is causing the dribbel???

Re: Transition to Sippy/Straw help and recoomedation
My Are 14 months and have been off the bottle for over a month. They started with the playtex lil grippers straw cups (and still use them) at 6 months.
So they were used to drinking from them. They have water and juice sometimes and of course milk now from the cups.
How long has she been using the cups? The lil grippers were a great transition. They also use the Munchkin ones now that they are older. They require them to suck a little harder but my boys are used to it now,
She might be confused if this is the first time she's been introduced to a sippy. Maybe try water or a little juice with it and see how she drinks. I'd get her completely comfortable with the sippy before I took away the bottle.
Even though my sons were comfortable with the sippy the we're not happy when we took the nighttime bottle away. One of them would throw his sippy cup on the floor at night and lay down and tantrum and the other decided he wasn't going to drink. It took about a week but then they both completely adjusted. Now they are so great with the cups or really any cup with a straw (like when we go to a restaurant).
GL!

My Boys twins are also 15 months They seem to do the same thing. I am told that its behavioral & they will outgrow it. My boys are teething & the water feels good on the gums. I however not given up bottles yet because I was also afriad that they didn't know how to use the cup. I think they do, just being difficult. They are sick now but will have to start soon. Good Luck to you!!! PS.- I also googled this & it appears many people have same problem. We use the soft straw cup
