? for those whose DC's weighed less then 20lbs at 1 year
Did they eventually have a large growth spurt? My DS is small, weighing in around 19lbs. He didn't close to triple his birth weight but DR. seems ok with it. He is the 10th percentile for both height and weight. I am just worried he will always be the smallest in his class. Both DH and I were in the 90th percentiles all the time. What were your experiences as they got older?

Re: ? for those whose DC's weighed less then 20lbs at 1 year
DS was just over 20 lbs at 1 year, 22 lbs. He is now 3 years old and only 27 lbs. In fact I am taking him for a weight check tonight because he lost weight at his last visit. Growth in the first year doesn't necessarily equate to later growth. I wouldn't worry as long as he is eating enough. Kids all grow at different rates and times.
ETA: My docs always said it is good to be proportionate, so the 10th in weight and 10th in weight is good. You don't want to be 10th in height and 75th in weight for example.

DD#1 was 20 lbs 3 ozs ( was 9lbs 3ozs at birth). One day she just started growth spurts and jumped up suddenly. Now she is around average after being 20% for years. Both DH and I are tall and her sister is much taller...at 3 she was the same height and weight as her sister at 4. They are 23 months apart. I know several kids who were tiny young but suddenly jumped in height around 3 or 4.

What about if they are 10% in height and weight and 85% in head circumference
Thanks for your insight :)

I don't know that that is true - at least not accoring to my ped. I think they have always been more concerned about consistant growth - like they stay on the same curve.
DS was just barely 20 lbs at his 1 year. He's 3 1/4 now and always been in the 10-25th percentile for his weight but around 75% for his height. He's just my tall, thin boy.
If your ped isn't concerned, I would try not to be.
Also, DH was always the tallest kid in his class growing up until high school, and then he just stopped. He's not short, but he's not tall. When people tell us DS looks so tall, we laugh about how you can tell where he got it. I'm barely 5' 2". I think you just can't tell what will happen.

DD was just over 20 lbs at one year I believe, and is probably around 22.5 lbs now. She is tall too - 90% for height, and 20% for weight. Dr hasn't been concerned at all. DD is almost 20 months now, and keeps growing like a weed, but not really gaining weight.

My DD was just under 18 pounds at a year. My ped wasn't concerned b/c she has always been on the petite side and is growing in a consistent manner. At 14 months she is still under 20 pounds.

My older son was 18 lbs. at a year. He just turned 3 on Monday and he is now 50th percentile in both weight and height. And both my boys have always had huge heads!! 75th and 90th percentiles respectively! :o)

Re: ? for those whose DC's weighed less then 20lbs at 1 year
dd is 2 and only 21-22 lbs! drs arent concerned b/c she was always growing-only 5 lbs at birth
That being said, between 11-16 months we gave her tons of pediasure to try and get her to 20 lbs. When she is sick she usually drops down to 20-21 lbs but she's growing and is a great eater
DS is only 8 months and weighs as much as my 2 year old!!!

DS was 18lbs at his one year visit. He is in the 7th percentile. My DH was a peanut until he was older. I am short so it's possible he will be a peanut forever but I am guessing he will be just like his dad.

Re: ? for those whose DC's weighed less then 20lbs at 1 year
This is DD. She was 19 lbs at 1yr, but her noggin was 90th percentile. she is 17 mo now and about 22lbs so no big growth spurts. She is 50th percentile for height. She is on the go all day. Is a climber and runner, so I don't see her gaining significant weight anytime soon. As long as her weight is going up, even slowly, I am happy!

Re: ? for those whose DC's weighed less then 20lbs at 1 year
My DD was 20lbs at her 1 yr-- she is going to be 4 in a few weeks, and was always like 50th for weight and like 75th for height when she was under a year.
I have her annual in a few weeks, but at 3- she was 31lbs and 39.5 tall. She was weighed at a doc appt 3 months ago, and was 36lbs! She is now more like 75th-85th for both height and weight.
My DS is smaller too, was 18lbs6oz at his 9 month-- but we go in a few weeks for him too. I assume he'll be a little over 20 and probably follow DD's growth pattern as he gets older. Both DH and I are on the tall.

Re: ? for those whose DC's weighed less then 20lbs at 1 year
my son has always been small and was only 18 lbs at a year. Always in the 8th percentile.
Even at 4 1/2, he's small. His weight is at 20% and height at 30%. He's 34 lbs right now.
My husband and i are both 5'8. I'm the short one in my family. They are all 6'4, 6'3 and even my sister is 6'.
I have 3 brothers and they all seemed to have their growth spurt in high school so i'm holding out hope for my son.

Re: ? for those whose DC's weighed less then 20lbs at 1 year
None of my kids were 20lbs at 1 year. My twins just had their 4yo checkup and they were 29 and 30lbs. DD#2 went for her 22mo well visit and was 20lbs. My doctor doesn't give me percentiles unless I ask. He did say that the twins were within the range for the age for the first time.

If your doc is not concerned neither should you. My son eats all day and prob more an his chunky cousin. His height and weight are proportionate and his blood tests are perfect. I always used to worry but I have let that go. As long as he is eating and sleeping properly I wouldn't worry.
Oh yea my sons is 10% for height and weight and 90th for head.
Can you say bobble head, lol

DD was 19 pounds 14 ounces at her 1 year, she basically gained a few ounces from 9 months to 1 year, I would guess bc she started being a lot more active, She is agreat eater and feels ridiculously "solid" when you hold her, so I am surprised she only weighs what she does and is only 30% percentile in weight. She actually dropped from 75% in weight all along to 30% in weight by one year, ped said that was ok as klong as height stayed consistent. She is 75% in height and always has been (Does NOT take after me!)

dd was just about 20 at 1 year. the dr wanted me to replace her milk with pedisure. she was 95% heights and only 25% in weight. By 18 months she had gained to go over 20 and the dr wasnt concerned. Shes tall and skinny. At 2 1/2 now shes around 25lbs.

DS 1 was a little over 19 lbs at his one year visit and was 27 lbs at his 3 year visit.
Ped has no concerns - he's in a lower percentile on the growth chart but, has stayed in the same percentile throughout most of his life (he was on the higher end right after he was born).
