Bikes for kids - where to purchase

DH and I want to get DD a bike with training wheels for her 4th bday in March. Where should we go to look? A bike store? Anyone have any recommendations?

Re: Bikes for kids - where to purchase

We just bought DD (4) a 14 inch bike with training wheels for Xmas from Santa. It is a Huffy princess bike. We got it Toys R Us. I would not go to a bike story personally...just not worth it IMO for a starter bike. With a coupon paid $70 for it and DH put it together. Go to TRU one day and have your DC try out 12 inch, 14 inch and 16 inch bikes and see which one seems to be best.

Re: Bikes for kids - where to purchase

Um… I went to Goodwill

Haha. Got one for like $10, spent $20 at a local bike store to clean it up (full service) and to put the training wheels on with new brackets, replace the tube in one tire (which was old I guess) and they actually cleaned it up real nice.

So $30 she got herself a bike. I spent money to get a nice helmet and some fancy handle bar tassels. Haha nearly got her a bell and basket too just for fun. The bell and basket were also at goodwill, just didn’t want to throw her off balance with a basket OR her trying to ring the bell or horn.

To be fair I went to a Goodwill in a fancy neighborhood. My father got my cousin a bike from goodwill years and years and years ago. He still remembers all the effort my dad put into that bike, new paint job, fixed the gears etc. My brother had gotten a new bike but my cousin’s family couldn’t afford a new bike. My dad got him one so they could play. I never knew but to this day my cousin still thinks very highly of my Dad for it. So that was in my mind when I decided to get her a bike.
