Those who have been TTC for over 6 months..
I have a question for those who have been TTC for over 6 months. Did you ever find the reason why? I know PCOS makes it difficult to conceive but I'm unaware of any other issues besides a low sperm count. I'm new to this but I'd like to know what I can be up against. Thanks!

Re: Those who have been TTC for over 6 months..
There are many MANY reasons as to why a couple can have trouble conceiving.
For guys, there can be issues with the count, shape, limited mobility.
For women, There could be ovulation issues, issues that would make implantation difficult, obstructions, etc. Some people are simply diagnosed with unexplained infertility meaning everything checks out ok, but the couple still has trouble getting pregnant.
I had an idea all along that getting pregnant would be difficult for me. My GYN told me to try for 6 months before seeing an RE. Once I started seeing an RE he diagnosed me pretty quickly and then we were able to start a treatment plan.

Re: Those who have been TTC for over 6 months..
For me, it's PCOS. I knew it was going to be difficult for me bc I do not get AF on my own- I must take provera every 2-3 months. It's been like that for as long as I can remember. When DH and I decided to start trying, we went straight to an RE. After meeting with an RE and having my DH get tested, we also found out he has Male IF issues as well. That helped us create a plan, and when that plan didn't quite work out, we decided to try something else. We will be starting that route next month, so fingers crossed it works for us.

Re: Those who have been TTC for over 6 months..
I had a MC Then waited 2 cyles before resuming TTC. After 6 cycles with no BFP i asked my OB for blood work and an HSG. My hormone levels came back fine and it showed that I was ovulating so I had the HSG and that showed some uterine polyps. I had to wait a cycle, then had a D/C with polyectomy. I had to wait 2 more cycles then resumed TTC again. It took 3 cycles ( including one during the hurricane when we couldnt really BD) and I just got my BFP last week. If this one sticks it will be my 2 nd child.
I knew something wasnt right and Im glad i asked the OB to start testing. I conceived my DD with no problems at all... If you have any concerns, it's worth starting to test. I am also almost 38 years old and didnt want to wait forever.

just so you know PCOS is pretty much a blanket term for any ovulation issue. so its not just "having PCOS." PCOS could mean a number of different things - high LH, anovulation, long cycles, irregular cycles, normal cycles with hormonal imbalances causing poor egg quality..etc. its not one of those things thats like you either have PCOS or you dont. the diagnostic criteria is somewhat erratic (especially among OB/gyn) and there's no single test to determine if you have it or not.
other than PCOS - egg quality can be an issue, chromosomal egg or sperm issues, low sperm morphology or motility, blocked or lack of vas deferens in men, blocked Fallopian tubes, endometriosis, uterine scar tissue, lining issues... there are dozens of reasons.

there are so many issues, like any of the ones previously mentioned, that could be a cause for not geting pregnant within 6 months. That said, most OBGYN's will tell you that it will take an average, normal, healthy couple up to 1 year to conceive on their own. DH and I knew I had PCOS and we gave it a shot on our own for 6 months before moving on to a RE. we didn't want to wait forever and am sad I didn't go see one sooner

To my knowledge, there are no issues. My DH is yet to get tested but we are now going on 13 months. I've been tested and so far I'm AOK.

What tests have you had done? To me, it's much easier to start with male testing since it's non-invasive and can literally be done in 1 day, while a woman's testing takes a month minimum.

Re: Those who have been TTC for over 6 months..
We're working on it. He has a job that he needs to plan days off MONTHS in advance. We just cant seem to get the timing right to get the SA done between TTC and just his work schedule.
I've had CD3 bloodwork done, sono's to confirm O and an HSG. Everything looked fine for me so far.

There are labs that you can drop off his sample at, as long as he can do it within an hour of the lab opening. Meaning, you have to get the sample to the lab within 1 hour, so he could do it at home, and you could race it to a lab. There's no reason he needs a whole day off.
