Caillou - Whats the deal?
DD (25 months) has become OBSESSED with Caillou.. Lately it's nothing but Caillou and I can't tell if it's a good show for little ones or not... he seems a little whiney and seems to be always breaking some kind of rule (I keep waiting for a lesson learned but don't really feel it?)
She gets about 20 mins of tv in the morning and 20 before bedtime and used to mix it up between Elmo's World and Wiggles. but now it's CAILLOU PLEASE!!!
Anyone have any strong opinions on this bald little fella? I haven't formed one yet and want to be influenced either way by others....

Re: Caillou - Whats the deal?
My girls have phased out of the show, but, IMO, he's a whiny brat.
I was never a fan, my youngest loved him. They have a few dolls, but don't watch the show anymore.

Re: Caillou - Whats the deal?
Omg my 2 yo adores caillou! Adores him, it's the only show he asks s for now. It is seriously on all the time bc he goes bonkers if I say no. He talks about him and the little sister Rosie I've grown to love caillou bc I have no choice.
The parents are so sweet and never yell, maybe that's why he loves the show

Re: Caillou - Whats the deal?
My 3 yr old loves him! I think he feels he can relate to it. Caillou goes to play school like him, has rules to follow, his parents to help (or bother, depending on the episode), grandma and grandpa close by, a younger sibling, etc. He is whiny, but I don't mind it.

Caillou - Whats the deal?
my DD doesn't care much for him yet but shes only 19m. i question why he is bald but rumor has it the original character (from a French book - hence the strange name) was based on a much younger child. anyway it could be worse. wikipedia: A 2012 study conducted at the University of Virginia, published in the journal Pediatrics, tested the show's effect on preschool-aged children's attention spans and cognitive abilities. The study had three groups of four year-olds each engaged in activities; one group watched Caillou, another watched SpongeBob SquarePants, and the third group drew pictures. After nine minutes, the children were tested on mental functions; those that watched Caillou had very similar results to the group that drew pictures, both of whom performed significantly better than the group that watched the SpongeBob episode.

Re: Caillou - Whats the deal?
dd loves caillou. she actually has learned a lot from watching his show. I actually have grown to like the show too. Sprout did start showing what they call "new" episodes and I did notice they are more "whining and complaining" caillou. DD also likes the books too.

Re: Caillou - Whats the deal?
My 3yo DS is obsessed with Caillou right now. It's all Caillou, all the time. He hasn't watched Nick Jr or Disney in my house for the past 2 weeks. He wants Sprout all the time.
He's learned a few things, but I find Caillou to be kind of annoying.
The parents are so mellow. They must be taking sedatives. And they never have anything else do to besides cater to Caillou and Rosie. They drop everything once Caillou starts whining.

Re: Caillou - Whats the deal?
I DESPISE HIM. DD went through an insane obsession with Caillou. Her 2nd bday party was Caillou themed. She LOVES him. At first I thought he was cute. However, I notice when she watches it she becomes more whiney. Also...the episode when Caillou becomes a big brother is AWFUL. I let DD watch it when I was pregnant and couldn't believe the content.
To get her off her Caillou kick, DH introduced Yo Gabba Gabba. I'm not sure this is any better!
