Ugh. Should I agree to induction?

I am 40 weeks on Thursday 10/25 with my 3rd baby. I am 4 cm and my fluid levels are fine (at least they were at my last sono on Friday)

I have an appt today and I know my dr is going to ask me to induce and I am on the fence about it.

My 1st boy was 9 days late.
My 2nd boy was 3 days early and all natural (labor came hard and fast)

I am so torn

you are certainly favorable for a great induction! why not give it a few more days and if no changes, a bit of pitocin will move things along! Chat Icon

That is what I am hoping for. I want to wait a few days more but I think this dr performs them on Thurs/Friday

Why would you induce? If you're already 4cm dilated, your body is doing what it's supposed to. Some babies aren't ready on their due date. As long as your fluids are fine, baby's doing okay and you feel good, I say hold off.

This exactly. Remember, due dates are just an estimate, no matter how perfectly on time you ovulate or whatever. It's an estimate. If you're 4 cms I would just let your body keep doing what it's doing. Keep moving around, go home and have lots of sex. Chat Icon Good luck

Im gonna be the minority here... I would do the induction. You're clearly full term and already 4cm. You're in a great position for a sucessful induction. And of course, you get to meet your LO that much sooner... again JMO! Good Luck!

If your fluid levels are still fine I personally would see how long your OB is willing to let you go after your due date. The fact that your 4cm seems hopeful. Did they tell you what station the baby was at (+1; -1 etc)?

Maybe discuss ways to naturally induce?

ITA. At 4 cm its just a little bit of pitocin and your baby should be here. I've had 3 successful inductions before and if i was in your situation I would choose the induction because at the rate you are right now, you could have that baby at any time and if the last one was fast, this one may be even faster.

ITA! I was in the same situation 4cm, but it was my first and it was my due date. I was on the fence, but eventually just decided to go for it because honestly, I was uncomfortable. I know that may sound awful to some, but the contractions weren't super strong, but weren't weak either. My husband is a NICU doctor and although he didn't want me to go early, he didn't want me to go late either. I wound up with one dose of pictocin at 6pm and delivered her after 10 minutes of pushing at 10pm. I don't regret my choice at all.

Re: Ugh. Should I agree to induction?

I would hold off a couple of more days, your body is in early labor on it's own, if the fluid is ok then I would let nature take its course

Re: Ugh. Should I agree to induction?

If you're already 4 cm, most likely you'll go on your own. You're due on 10/25, but I wouldn't agree to an induction until being a week late.

I've been induced once with DS, I was a week late. I had an induction scheduled for DD a week after my due date, but went into labor on my own 4 days after my due date.

You can schedule it for 11/1, but I doubt you'll make it till then.

Ugh. Should I agree to induction?

i agree with everyone else, if your already 4cm, i would wait another few days and see what happens - you'll probably go on your own in a few days anyway

Re: Ugh. Should I agree to induction?

Yes!

I wanted an induction for my 3rd and luckily was dilating on my own so the the OB agreed. I was 39 weeks and 5 days. I went in at 9:30am and when I was check at 10:30 am I was 2cm. I had DD at 5:30pm.

I was really calm going into the hospital because I knew my other 2 kids were taken care of and I didn't have to rush anyone to get over. DH could schedule his days off. It just worked over all.

Good Luck!

Re: Ugh. Should I agree to induction?

Just out of curiosity, how come your dr would ask you to induce, if your fluid is good and no medical reason?
My due date was today and my dr will let me go up to 2wks late before inducing unless theres a medical reason.

Re: Ugh. Should I agree to induction?

My fluid levels will be checked again on Friday.

he said that he would induce if I want on Saturday or Monday.

Right now there is no compelling medical reason except that rates of stillborn go up after the due date

I am going to wait a bit more

Ugh. Should I agree to induction?

Personally I would wait. As long as you fluids are okay, the placenta is okay and the baby is still active you're more than likely okay to wait. There's still a chance with induction that your body won't cooperate and you'll need a c-section. That's a chance I would try to avoid if possible.

Good luck no matter what happens!!!

I'd say do it..... I had an induction on both #1 & #2 for medical necessity.......

#2 came so much faster(although dr told me its always faster after the first cause body knows what to do.

I agree. I was 3cm with my 1st when they induced and it was a very smooth labor and delivery. Pretty quick too. I hope I can be induced again with this one. Good luck!!
