On maternity leave with nanny

DD2 is now 3.5 months old (how did THAT happen??). This whole time we have had our nanny still coming 3 days a week for a few reasons: 1) so we don't lose her to another family while I'm on maternity leave; 2) to keep DD1's schedule the same; 3) for the extra help which has been great. But now that things are much smoother around here I feel like we don't need her here, and a part of me doesn't even want her here. She really is great and she keeps DD1 very busy and always offers to help with DD2, but it's a delicate dance between mommy and nanny when both are home. I'm trying not to be controlling but even the slightest things annoy me (like changing DD into a shirt that doesn't match her shorts ).

DH says I need to take advantage of her being here and do stuff for me until I go back to work in November. So I started running again; meet neighborhood moms for lunch; run errands. We live in downtown Brooklyn so it's not like Long Island where I can easily jump in the car and spend some time at Target or visit family & friends (who mostly live on the island). I also take DD1 out alone a lot for pizza or ice cream or to the park/playdates. But we're still home together a lot on these days.

Any ideas of how to handle this? It's so annoying/strange to have both of us here now that the girls are on such a good predictable schedule. I just want to be alone with them. I KNOW I may sound ridiculous complaining about even having this extra help and the days I'm alone with them I do go nutty sometimes but that's life with kiddies and I love the craziness.

On maternity leave with nanny

i had a nanny while i was on maternity with my twins and DS just turned 2. I used the time for the nanny to get used to all by getting my hair done - highlighted and straigghtened on different days- got all my visits - including dentist and so forth

i sued it go to lunch with my older child or i took my little ones and ran errarnds or gave myself an entire day off to run errands - i just pumped when needed- only did that once

i just tried to get out every day either by myself or with one of my kids
