2 under 2... how hard is it?

I was just wondering how hard it is to have two babies under two. We are considering trying again in a couple of months but I am not sure what the realities are of it. How hard is it to breast feed with a child under two around? How much help did/do you get from other people? Thanks for the advice!

2 under 2... how hard is it?

Honestly, it was such an easy transition for us. Our boys are just over 22 months apart. I really think it was the perfect age gap, for us anyway. Our older one was young enough that he doesn't really remember life before his brother, so we didn't have any jealousy to deal with. I am still EBF my second, who is almost 9 months. You just have to learn the art of multitasking! I have done many many things while nursing, including reading a book, making a sandwich, pouring milk, changing a diaper, doing a puzzle, etc.! If I ever sensed that he was in need of attention while I was nursing the baby, I would sit down with him while he played and just nurse the baby on my lap, so I could still physically be with my older one. We do have family around who would stop by for a few hours here and there which was helpful.

Re: 2 under 2... how hard is it?

Our girls are 23 months apart. I was sooooo worried it was going to be a hard transition for us and DD. The first few weeks were rough mainly bc newborns are hard. DD was a bit overly curious the first few days but quickly just fell inlove with her little sister. DD2 is now 3.5 months and things are so wonderful! DD1 is very protective and loving towards the baby and always kissing her and checking on her. It melts my heart.
I think what made the transition so easy for us was that DD1 is very communicative. If she were any younger it may have been a bit more tricky. On the flip side I like that she is still young enough to be easily distracted and easily entertained, which makes nursing the baby possible. Also, while I'm on maternity leave we still have our nanny here part time which has been an enormous help. I get to have lots of special alone time with DD1 which she loves.
I stressed so much about the "perfect age gap" and I truly don't think there is one. Whatever works best for you and your fam will be your own perfect! Good luck!

Its hard. Mine are 17 months apart and I would have waited longer if I could.

It's like having 2 babies cry, need you at the same time. My older is super needy and the younger gets neglected. Yes... They are close... But I'm waiting for longer next time around.

I agree. My sons are 20 months apart and I can't walk away to pee without both of them following me. If I close a door behind me my 2 1/2 year old goes bananas. My 10 month old wants to be held all the time. it's rough. not to mention my little one just started walking and my older son is super jealous and pushes him down ever chance he gets.

Mine are 10.5 months apart & honestly in the beginning it was extremely difficult. It was like having twins on opposite schedules. My oldest was not a needy child but I felt I neglected him bc the baby was a preemie & needed extra care. I also feel I made my oldest grow up too fast.

Now at 2&3 it is really great. We have our difficult days but they are far & in between. They are best friends plus we got out of binky & bottle stages together.

We also had an equally easy transition as well. My older DD was 17 months when my second DD was born. DD #1 was such an easy baby so I was definitely nervous about the second and how my first would react (and how I would be able to handle it all). But everything went amazingly well and 9 months later, its still going great. DD #2 is a great baby (even better than #1) and DD #1 was wonderful with adapting to the change and stepping into the role of big sister. They are both really easy going kids.

Dont get me wrong - there were difficult moments but for the most part, I never felt like there were horrible days or that it was more than I could handle.

My first two are 15 months apart and my 2nd and 3rd are 3 months shy of 4 years.

I would take back to back any day over a bigger age gap. Is it tiring yes, but I never stopped to think about how hard it was, I just did it. I also didn't plan them to be that close but I am so happy it happened.

my youngest boys are now 5 & 3.5, they are 19 months apart. The first few months were very difficult for me. As they got older it got easier. They are now inseperable & best buds and im happy they are close. It was getting through the fist months that was the hardest part.

Re: 2 under 2... how hard is it?

It depends on their temperament.

I had 2 very easy babies (20 months apart) and it was sooo much easier than I thought it would be.

I know others who have 2 under 2 and one or both babies was colic or some other issue and that makes it all much harder.

It wasn't always a piece of cake but I found the transition must easier from 1 to 2 kids than going from 0 to 1. I like that my youngest potty trained early because I was training her brother & then we could get rid of baby stuff & not having to save everything. I also like that my first doesn't remember a time where the 2nd wasn't around.

They are 22 months apart.

Re: 2 under 2... how hard is it?

Mine are 18 months apart. I didn't have the luxury of time or fertility to wait. If I did, I would have definately waited. It was HARD. An 18 month old doesn't understand they have to share your attention.

Now at 3.5 and 2, it's much more manageable. It's not easy, and we still have really bad days, but easier.

Re: 2 under 2... how hard is it?

I am finding it more difficult now that they are 1 and 2, than I did when the youngest was born. They are both mobile now and that's killing me. As a baby, it was easier to just put the youngest aside to help the oldest. Now they are into everything.
