In RNP hell
Has anyone successfully tried co-sleeping for a week or so before transitioning to the crib? I'm out of ideas and this is all that I have left...
My son is almost 4m old & is already too big for it. He's very long & seems very uncomfortable in it this past week - he's started waking up once every hour screaming & the only way that I can calm him is to nurse him - which has become a completely separate issue
I saw this coming & had wanted to transition him at 3m but nothing worked. I tried using his bassinet in our room & raised the bottom of it, but after a few nights with no sleep at all I'd go back to the RNP (I work full time & the zero-sleep nights were killing me, as it is now). I eventually gave up & we started laying him flat on his back more throughout the day & we try napping him in his crib or bassinet every day, but he lasts 15-30 min tops & then loses it. He rolled over the other day & since then seems so uncomfortable, but he still won't sleep anywhere else. At about 4:30/5am I've been giving up & bringing him into bed with us & he seems to like that...is it crazy to think that doing this for a week might get him used to bigger spaces/sleeping flat or would I just be setting us up for another issue?
I think we'll all sleep better once he's in his own room/crib, so I'm desperate to get him in there. Thanks...

Re: In RNP hell
I just did the transition about a month ago. My daughter is 5 months old and loved her RNP! SHe napped in it and slept next to our bed in it. Now she sleeps in her crib every night with no problems!
What I did was to start the transition during nap time because I figured I could deal with a crank baby during the day as long as I was still getting my sleep at night. To start the transition I took the RNP insert out and laid it in the crib. I rolled up two of the million receiving blankets I have and put them under each side so it sort of resembled the little cocoon made by the RNP. I also lifted the crib a bit but gave up on that right away because she didn't care.
After a few days of this, I took out the blankets so it was flatter and by the end of the week was able to completely remove the RNP insert.

That's a really good idea! Can I just ask, is the insert floppy when it's not on the frame though? I love the idea since it seems to be closeness/the cocoon-like feeling that he needs & I can't really replicate that in the crib, but if it's floppy I might be too nervous about it not being safe...I think I'll take the insert out tonight to see...

In RNP hell
I just transitioned DD about a week ago, as well. She is almost 5 months. When I first started the transition a few weeks ago, she screamed bloody murder everytime I laid her down. She was waking several times a night in the crib and I kept giving up and sticking her back in the RNP because I was exhausted. I ended up putting a few blankets UNDER the mattress on one end to give her the elevation she was used to. It took a couple nights, but she got used to it. Now the blankets are out and she has zero issues.

In RNP hell
OMG I went through this exact thing at the same age. DS is skinny as could be but long and was not sleepign great in the RnP anymore so I figured...on to the crib (PnP also). He would be dead asleep on us and the minute you put him down flat he would scream his head off. I cried for a few nights and thougth what the hell am I going to do. I waited until I had a few nights where I didn't have to get up for work (ended up being when we went to visit my parents in FL) so if I was up all night I could try and get some sleep during the day. It was rough the first night but it got better and by the time we left my parents he was sleepign fine. It was also the time he started rolling onto his stomach and sleeping that way. I think you jsut need to do it for a few days and you will def lose sleep but it should only be a day or two and then you DS should be good.
Good Luck!!!

Re: In RNP hell
We transitioned around 4mo.
I have one of these in the crib and DS looks at it while he falls asleep. It helped A LOT....kind of like a distraction!
My 2yo twins also have them in their cribs still and won't go to sleep without them on. Image Attachment(s):

Re: In RNP hell
Thanks so much everyone
I have a similar soother in the crib & (paired with his mobile) it's the only reason we probably get 15-30 min. in the crib for his naps. After that, though, he doesn't want anything to do with it
Jen - thanks for the tip. I tried that with the bassinet, but not with the actual crib, so I'll give that a try too. Unfortunately, I think that he's good on his back now though from the daytime training we've been doing; I think it's absence of the "snugness" of the RNP that he's freaking out about. When I bring him into bed he curls into me & passes right out, but he hates being in the middle of the bed by himself. Once he's snuggled into me I, of course, stay up all paranoid that I might roll onto him, but happy he's not screaming his head off lol
Allison, I'm glad that it worked out for you finally! It sounds exactly like what we're going through...I've been crying too. I'm so damn tired & with his baptism this weekend I'm exhausted from cleaning for our house guests & doing party stuff. I wish that I had a long weekend coming, but I don't until Labor Day. At this point neither of us is really sleeping anyway so I might just go for it tonight...I think I'll try sleeping on the rocker in his room...

It is floppy and that is why I only did it for naps so I could still keep an eye on her. She didn't start sleeping in her crib at night until I transitioned her off of the insert - Does that make sense?
