Re: longer cycles... when to BD
I would start ov testing on cd 5. I have a 32-35 day cycle and that's when I'm starting. As for doing the bd, we are starting wed. Lol. I don't thing ovulation occurs that early but can't hurt. Fertile time prob starts day 17. Divide your cycle days by 2 & that's the likely fertile window. Bd a day before that then every other day after.

There's no way you'd O on CD5.
The very earliest you need to start testing in CD10 and even that's early. You're probably safe on CD12.

I hear you but for some reason that is the directions on the first response digital opk. Start on cd 5. It's a little confusing as to why they tell you start then.

ITA. the box says that so that you have to buy more. unless you have a 19 day cycle you aren't ever ovulating on CD5. IMO the earliest to start OPKs is to take your average cycle length and subtract 20 days. ex. if you have an average of 32 day cycle start testing on cd12. if you average a 40 day cycle, cd20..etc. you will almost never O more than 20 days before AF so you cant really miss it using that method.
if you have irregular cycles like me, i dont start testing until i have EWCM. i have yet to miss the surge using that method but i also know my cycle very very well, and i dont like to waste tests. i prob use like 3 or 4 OPKs a cycle that are negative before i get a positive. if you temp and really get to know your cycle you rarely waste them on negatives. but i am not TTC right now so i am only concerned with NOT or at least being very careful around O time.

since its your first month with the OPK, i would start around Cd10. my cycles were also long (34-38 days) and i would normally O around CD22-24. however, the month I got my BFP i randomly decided to use the OPK on CD14 which is earlier than i normally did and it came back that i was ovulating...turns out my cycle shortened that month. so basically...better safe than sorry; take it early so you can be certain you dont miss it. good luck
