No way. The house Im in now the mom and dad divorced, the mom then died of cancer (in the house) and her son commited suicide (outside the house). Honestly, I wasnt sure I believed in ghosts before we moved in about 5 years ago. Im still not 100% sure if I do or not but I see things out of the corner of my eye ALL he time, especially in a specific area. I do have an uneasy feeling even though nothing terrible has happened. I wouldnt do it, but thats me :)
I grew up in a home where the previous owner died in the house from cancer as well. I always thought he was walking around at night--I'd see him out of the corner of my eye.

could you buy a home where someone was murdered?
I lived for many years in a house where someone died naturally, never had an issue with it. A murder I would feel very differently about. I strongly believe in ghosts and that many of them are people who died violently/suddenly. Even if it was a harmless ghost, it would still creep me out way too much to ever be comfortable there. I'd also think the bad energy would linger there.
I really don't think it's right that a real estate agent doesn't have to tell you this. If we move again, I will definitely be doing my homework before making an offer.

my personal opinion is that MAny homes have been built over indian burial grounds etc. you never know what the history of a property was even before a home was built on it. I'd buy some sage and ask those suckaz to leave and enjoy my beautiful home if it was a good price and what I really wanted.

Re: could you buy a home where someone was murdered?
My initial gut reaction was no way, but in thinking about it, maybe I would. If it allowed me to get a bigger, better house then I could otherwise afford, I would at least consider it.

Yes. It would not be an issue for me if this was the house for us.

Re: could you buy a home where someone was murdered?
I honestly don't know.
I do believe in ghosts...but they don't scare me. But if someone was murdered there and their ghost is still chilling up in the home, I don't know if I'd want to deal with possibly seeing it all the time.
So, I guess since I don't want to be inconvenienced by some murdered person's ghost, then it would be a no.

Someone was murdered on my front lawn on Memorial Day 2009. One of the worst days of my life and one that I will never forget. I did not know the victim. It was a guy at the wrong place at the wrong time. We rented out the house eventually because we couldnt sell it and we told the renters what had happened. They had no problem with it.

Re: could you buy a home where someone was murdered?
No effing way!!!!!
I wouldn't even buy a house that was formerly a brothel. Yep, DH and I went to an open house in Northport and the guy had a prostitution ring that he ran in the house. The town seized the house because so many neighbors complained. I found this out when we googled the address and said NO WAY! Who the hell knows what went on there, you know?
I think every buyer needs to research the home that they are buying. With the internet, you can find out ALOT!
So with that said, I would not purchase a home with any type of bad history- murder, brothel, whatever the case....

Re: could you buy a home where someone was murdered?
Not a chance. We found a house and were about to go into contract (fell through for other reasons) and I kept telling DH one of the people that lived there (seller's daughter) freaked me out - no reason in particular, I just had an eerie feeling about her. There were many times I almost squashed the deal just because of that. Forget it if someone was murdered there. Luckily, my house is new construction so I know there was no funny business in it. But...I suppose anything could have happened on the land.

Re: could you buy a home where someone was murdered?
My stepdad was thinking about buying an old home in Syracuse because he was doing a lot of work up there. He asked me to do some research on it because I'm good at things like finding stuff in old newspapers and what not. Anyway, I found out it used to be a funeral home at the turn of the century for many, many years. I think that would be worse then a home someone was murdered in. Gross.

Not me... I wouldn't even look at a house if I heard that the owners were getting divorced. I felt that was a curse. The house around the block from me was the JOel Rifkin house. Who in the world would want to live there. I heard the new owners think it's cool

No. We looked at one house, which gave me a very creepy feeling. We found out after the fact that someone was brutally stabbed there and there and dragged into the garage. They painted the garage floor to cover the blood. The person didn't die, but I would never be able to set foot in that garage withou thinking of the horror...

Definitely not.
I know the history of my home even though it is pretty old. No one died here. For some reason that is comforting to me.
