Non stop Braxton hicks contractions at almost 20 w ( bit long)

So as I posted around 16 weeks I started having BH contractions. I have been getting them on and off few times a day, but they have gotten strong this past week or so,not painful but very uncomfortable. My OB tells me 5-6 per hr is ok and nothing to worry about, but I'm getting 1-5 per hour most of the day and yesterday and today have been really bad, yesterday I had a dr's appt in the city and at the end of the day I was having them every 15-20'min, I drank a lot, relaxed and they stopped, woke up this am and they started up again, not as frequent, but still they are there . I called my OB's office and again I got : rest, relax, try to stay off your feet, drink lots of fluids... I know they are irregular, I know they happen and I know they are "normal" but I'm only 19w 5 days, if I'm having them this much now ( I feel like even if I'm having 1-3 per hour most of the day, that's a lot) what's going to happen down the road? Chat Icon I'm getting a bit worried, especially after going through what I went through with my DD, I kept having them a lot , starting at 23 weeks , I complained to my dr , she kept telling me it's normal for weeks , then one day I went in and I was 2cm dilated, contractions every 7 min, had to be admitted to the hospital. so I'm understandably scared and worried.
I'm also on progesteron shots , to prvent preterm labor, but only had 1 shot so far, next one is Fri.
I don't know what to think or do, I drink and drink, and drink , I try to rest and stay off my feet as much as I can,but they are still happening Chat Icon
I guess the ason I'm posting is mainly to vent , but also to see if anyone else has had this happen
Thanks for letting me share
------------------------------------------------------

thought I'd update you

So yesterday I called and insisted to see a dr today since I was going on for a shot anyway. I was having non stop BH again and got worried, they said come in and the dr will see you. so I go in today and they tell me the dr isn't in and I don't have an appt , so they said come back on Monday Chat Icon I said I am not going through this weekend feeling this way and not knowing what's going on , after arguing with them for a bit they said one of the drs will take me, so after waiting for almost 2 hrs she checked me. she said nothing to worry about, even if I AM having BH few times per hour almost every hour. She said my cervix is long and closed, did 1 sec sono and baby looks fine.
so basically it looks like there is nothing they can do and I'm just going to have to go through this pregnancy having BH million times a day Chat Icon
I have to try and drink a lot, rest a lot and call them if I start getting more than 5-6 per hour.

i think perhaps your next step would be to stop working. if i was you with what happened with your DD, i would slow it down drastically- to doing what you NEED to do (groceries, few errands, etc) rather than maintaining the lifestyle you lived before you were pregnant, kwim?

i had the same thing happen to me last week (no issues with prior pregnancy) and i was told that if i think i'm drinking enough fluids, drink more. if i think i'm relaxing enough, i'm not. just stay off your feet as much as you can and drink at least 100+ ounces of water a day.

if you're really worried, make an appt with your OB to check your cervix, etc.

I was getting Braxton Hicks A LOT in the 2nd tri. I spoke to my doc and he said it’s normal but to drink a lot of water and try to relax every chance I got.
Towards the end of the 2nd tri, into the 3rd-they stopped. Now, at 37 weeks- I’m getting them again, but not as frequently as before.

What are the shots that you are getting?

Sounds like you feel very nervous & upset by this. Demand that they put you on the monitor to check for contractions. Sounds like you need to stop working soon.

weekly progesterone shots, to prevent preterm labor I had w DD.
I only work part time from home and make my own hours, I can't afford to stop complitely , especially now, there is just no way, DH' company is having some issues and we need the extra income in case something happens. I mean if the dr says I have to stop we'll do what we have to do, but for now it's not sonething I can do Chat Icon

I agree! Also demand they give you a soon to check your cervix. I had BH and had cervix issues. I would not let them dismiss it like this. Especially of they are getting uncomfortable.

I'm not a doctor but your doctor's reaction seems a little too blase to me. I would definitely be worried about preterm labor, starting this early with BH. BH is usually just practice for your body, but with what happened last time, I'd think they'd be more concerned and want to watch you more. Can you try bed rest for a day or two even and see if that does stop them? I think the suggestion that it might be cervix issues is definitely a good one to look into as well.

How old is your DD? I know the risk of preterm labor goes up the closer the babies are together.

You have to get to 24 weeks, at the very, very minimum. I'm not saying delivering at 24 w would be ideal at all, but that's my understanding of viability.

I'm really nervous for you too. Chat Icon I would ask for more testing to be done. If the drinking water isn't enough to keep you hydrated or something, maybe they need to do fluids through IV and see if that helps. Whatever it takes to keep you and that baby safe.

I hope you feel better and it's not a medical thing at all (like maybe it's just anxiety or something and will go away).

that's what I said to them when I called few min ago, I said I know u keep telling me it's nothing to worry about, but I am worried, they kept telling me the exact same thing w my DD and I almost gave birth at 28 weeks , so I have been there. Also not helping that I had a missed MC in October at almost 9 weeks and we didn't know for 3 weeks....
I am so frustrated right now, I hate when they dismiss you like this. I feel like they are not listening and it makes me so mad. I mean seriously what does it take for them to just do a quick 5 sec sono ?! Maybe I sound crazy but if you have been whe I have been you would understand ( I don't mean u, I mean in general) I feel it's deja vu, same story from 5 yrs ago.
I will be calling them tomorrow am and insist on being seen by a dr before the weekend and want them to do a sono to make sure everything is ok. I do feel the baby moving, but still worried.

thank you. I am trying really hard to keep hydrated, keep drinking water but ther is only so much I can drink. I am also trying to relax as much as Ican, but it's very hard with a 4yo and million things to do, don't have much help either. DH's familywill help as much as they can, but they have their own lives and issues, I don't want to be a burden to them and my family is overseas....

Edited, sorry I think I said too much and also don't want to comoff as a whiny pregnant lady, lol.

The sono is good to check if your fluid is ok but I think what you may really need is to be placed on the monitor (nst scan) because that is how they check if you are contracting. Please do this considering your history with dd. Begining at 28wks, I had non stop BH for hours at a time. I called my Dr for the nst scan at 31 wks & found out I was contracting every 2 min. They sent me to the hospital & had to take meds for a few weeks to stop contracting.

My toddler's only 16 m but I know what you mean -- it's tough. And I don't even work!

I hope it's not as serious as it seems. Hopefully the doctors know what they're saying. Keep us updated please.

yup, this is what they did with my DD , after complaining of contractions and being uncomfortable for 3 weeks and my dr telling me it's nothing to worry about they finally placed me on the monitor and that's how they saw I was indeed having contractions every 5 min, then they checked me and I was 2cm...
I totally expected my dr to do this last Fri considering my history , but nope " it's normal" So I guess I have to go through next 20 weeks of pregnancy having non stop contractions few times per hour almost every hour Chat Icon

Definitely not the solution you were looking for... but at least they checked and you and the baby are ok. That's what's most important!
