I heard the most ridicilous IF related comments this weekend
Sorry for the long vent but I was just so aggravated. This weekend my bil and his future wife came over for dinner with the rest of DH family. They are getting married next year so a lot of people were asking them about when they are going ttc. The conversation that followed was so ridicilous I sort of still can't believe it. My bil explains that he told his future wife that she should harvest her eggs after they get married because he doesn't want kids until 45. He says that she will have IVF because hey "its what science is for" and than he says "its not a big deal". I'm not one who usually gets involved with arguing with him but I couldn't believe it. They don't know I went through IF treatments so I told them I did. I've only had iui(s) which is nothing compared to IVF and it was still a lot of emotional and physical stress. He than kept trying to defend his position that its not really a big deal to go through IF and that enjoying their 30's is more important than her ticiking clock. I told them that unfortunately time wasn't on my side since I knew of my diagnosis before we got married. He than insulted me that he wouldn't have kids if he didn't own a home first. DH had enough at the point and told him to shut up but I'm still in shock by this conversation. The thing that sort of is ironic is they are both doctors. Its not like they don't know about IVF and the risks involved.

Duh! Is she the same age? If so how likely wil it be that IVF if effective for her at 45? And you should have told him not to assume anything and if he plans to go with his plan to go have a SA done so they know if they are dealing with MF.
Just goes to show that Drs who don't practice IF have no farking clue!!

The most shocking part is that they are doctors. I thought they were just two uneducated people. As we all know, unless a doctor is a fertility doctor, they may not know too much. You know what, let them do them do their plan. They'll see!

Agreed!
And like other posters stated, I have personally found on this journey, that from comments I got from doctors that I treated with for nonfertility issues, they are unbelieveably ignorant when it comes to IVF. Other than REs, some doctors don't have a clue!

They are both 30. She is a gastroligist and he is a research dr. She didn't say much sort of rolled her eyes at him. I'm not sure she agrees with him. I wouldn't wish IF on anyone but you're right who knows what their health or fertility will be like at 45. I think its crazy. I feel so blessed to have my dd and to be pg with number 2 through IF treatments but if I could have had a natural conception obviously I would have chosen that, IF is not an easy road and its bothers me that he thinks its like a walk in the park. I honestly believe he thinks women are out there choosing this for themselves.

i always find the people who have those opnions about ivf and such related items are the same morons who suggest why not just sdopt? or why dont u go away u will just pregnant..relax,put ur legs up
u know all those people...the ones who do not know the first flucking thing about IF

ITA! Is he freezing is semen since his wife is harvesting her eggs?? Once he is 45 they may not be swimming as well.

the ironic part is I bet they will get pregnant by accident that is what happens to people like this. I hope they have a lot of money saved for this whole event. Also, what makes them think a 45 year old woman is going to be able to carry to term.
