Clomid question

So my dr has decided to try me on clomid during next months cycle. I told her that I thought pcos/insulin resistance patients are usually not good candidates for clomid because they are resistant to the drug or become easily overstimulated. She said many patients go on to have success with clomid.

I know clomid causes you to ovulate but I already ovulate. Will it increase egg quality??? Because the current speculation is that perhaps I just have poor egg quality despite weight control and metformin.

Also, I'm curious what dosage/schedule of clomid everyone followed just for comparison, although I know everyone is different.

Did anyone who ovulated on their own or have poor egg quality have success with clomid?

Re: Clomid question

i never heard of pcos patients not being good for clomid..it was the first fertility drug i ever used and i have both issues

it did not work for me but that was not the reason why,i know plenty of girls on here it did work for

clomid does NOT make you ovulate..so in case someone like me who does not ovulate i needed a trigger shot with it

i am not sure about egg quality,if it increases or decreases it but i do not think it has a effect

i do know it can thin your lining and that is why most docs will not keep u on it forever

when i started i was on 50 then went to a 100 then 150

my best advice is to make sure u r monitored on it..i wasted so much time with my ob who just handed me these pills and said have some sex..never took blood or a sono to see if i was responding

def make sure u r monitored

best of luck!Chat Icon

Re: Clomid question

I have PCOS and I don't ovulate on my own. I was given clomid to speed up the egg process. I ended up with quite a few eggs each cycle (not sure about the quality). I responded very well and ended up taking it for 9 cycles before I got my BFP.

Re: Clomid question

I have PCOS and I took clomid for 2 cycles unmonitored and 2 monitored...It worked for me since 2-3 follicles developed...for me the clomid caused my lining to thin and I developed cysts twice...I think with the cysts I may just be prone since I developed a cyst on femara as well...def get monitored while taking it...I was on 100 mg CD 3-7...I also triggered since I dont ovulate on my own and its better for timing IUI's

Re: Clomid question

Clonid just makes you produce more eggs (hopefully). Egg quality is not better or worse it just is what it is. It does not make you ovulate. If you ovulate normally on your own then they will most likely still have you o on your own. If you do not ovulate then they would give you a trigger

I did 2 cycles and one I produced 3 follies and the other I produced 2 follies. I did not get pregnant when I used clomid.

Re: Clomid question

Clomid doesn't improve or decrease your egg quality. It just stimulates your ovaries to produce more of the eggs. If you don't ovulate, then you would need to trigger, if you do ovulate they would probably have you try it in your own.
either way, make sure you are monitored on Clomid

Re: Clomid question

I also ovulate on my own and had unexplained IF. Clomid just gave me the chance to produce more follies, raising my chances for a successful IUI. It worked. I responded well and for my iui's, they changed my doseage and tried different things. It's all part of the testing process unfortunately. One test is to see how you respond, then they'll take it from there Chat Icon

Re: Clomid question

I don't have PCOS and I ovulate on my own. I take Clomid to increase the quality of my ovulation and to increase my luteal phase.

On 100 mg of Clomid, I only produced 1 egg last month but it lenghtened my luteal phase from 10 days to 13 days. Also, my progesterone level is normally low after I O so they're trying to increase that number, making it what they call a better quality ovulation.

Hope that helps.
