how would you feel if... ( doctor related)

you go to see your ob at 37w4d.

the entire pregnancy both ob and perinatologist said 39 you will be induced bc xyz and 39 w is safest etc.

so you say to ob today...so next thurs is 39 weeks so if i dont go into labor on my own...how does the induction work?

and doc says oh no i dont induce on the weekends bc i try to have a life.

now shocked i say..
oh no...my 39 w is a thursday.

doc says i dont induce on a thurs bc i am in office and dont induce on fridays bc its too close to the weekend . he says ...if an emergency its different but electively i dont do this.

so i say...when then..
he said the following tues or wed he would induce me ( not monday bc he is in office again)

at this point inside i am fuming..
and i say jokingly

doc i dont care about you having a life i am gonna die if i wait longer hahaha.
and....by then i am already pretty much 40 w and and you and peri said i am safest at 39???

and he starts saying maybe this maybe that...i will talk to the other doctor.


so now its like okay see you next week. done thats its.

so.........on my own i call my peris office and leave a message bc i dont trust my ob to communicate with him.

so ...talk to me...
and i just being hormonal or was what he said kinda douchey?

i mean why every single damn appt was 39w stressed so hard....but now its not fitting in his schedule???
feel trapped and wanna cry.

I think that your doctor is being pretty obnoxious and irresponsible. If he has been telling you this whole time that it's a matter of your health to be induced no later than 39 weeks, and he only does Tuesdays or Wednesdays, then he should induce you a day or two before 39 weeks! Why wait until it g-d forbid becomes an emergency?

I would be very frustrated if I were you.

I know he does scheduled Cs and inductions on certain days because he's at the hospital all day.

Why can't he induce you on the Wed instead of thurs? I understand needing a life, but its odd that all the long its safest for you until it doesn't jive with his schedule.

I would tell him he is inducing you at 38w because waiting until almost 40w would be too dangerous. This happened with dd I would have been 39w5d and was always told not to go that far esp since dd was larger then ds who had major issues coming out. I did not give him a choice I told him when he was inducing me. I know the hospital won't give the ob an issue if he says it's for baby size or any other complication like let's say the mom has GD. I would tell him you are not comfortable waiting until that late and it will be done the week before. I did not take no for an answer and was induced on my day of choice.

I don't understand why they wouldn't just induce you on Wednesday or even Tuesday night then. Perhaps now that you're nearing the end it's not as much of an emergency as they had originally thought it would be?

I know doctors have senses of humor, but it sounds like his is the WRONG sense of humor. I hope you work it out. I agree with you to go call your perinatologist on your own.

Time to start all the getting yourself to go into labor tricks now! Then mother nature can decide!!

but unless its completely necessary to be induced at EXACTLY 39w, i cant say you have much of an argument at this point.

When they say 39W that doesn't mean on that exact day and my Dr probably wouldn't have done it certain days.

I was told that I would be having my baby by 40 weeks either by csection or induced. But I would have to work around his scdule.

So I wouldn't be to upset about the scheduleing just probably abut the way he handled everything.

Sorry to say but what a di*k!!! I would have lost it!

My doctor is married and has 3 kids. The last time I went into labor at dinner time on her day off.... her youngest daughter called her and asked if she would be home in time to read her a bedtime story

I felt HORRIBLE and started to apoligize and she looked at me like I was nuts. She said this was her job. She loved it. Her daughter understands this is how it goes and I shouldn't feel badly for a second

I have something very similar going on. My ob has decided to go on vaca during my 39th week so I'm only a scheduled 3 days before my due date! However if my ob talked to me like that I'd be piSsed off. Im not confrontational enough to say something but I'd be really upset!

I would be pissed also. not for anything but you would like a life of not having to carry longer than you were told.

I hope you dont mind but I hope you go into labor and scr_ew up his weekend.

either that or he gets a nice case of diarrhea this weekend.

according to the docs...if i ELECT to be induced before 39 weeks ...i need an amnio to prove lung maturity


today the ob said if i can get a note from the perinatologist that hte lungs are ok..we can do the day before 39.

but what is this mysterious note about ..bc the peri never said notes are possible?



i would not be upset if i was induced at 39w2 days kwim?

but at 39w6days....its stupid!!!!
and i hve been told this whole preg not to go farther than 39 so to me this seems super irresponsible.

i am going to hunt down the perinatologist tomorrow and get a straight damn answer.

plus i am getting pressure from inlaws bc dh's 97 year old grandmother is in town from out of state...waiting for the baby to be born. and since we were told 39w she is super impatient and keeps saying....i am old i am old..my days are numbered!!! we dont know how long she can stay due to medical reasons much longer than the end of april.

i just dont know why all this dawned on the doc today when we had allll these months ...he could have told me all his rules about days he induces.

sigh..

and yes hormonal. hot. grumpy. exhausted. in pain. so i am sure this doesnt help my outlook

He is very different than his brother. I used his brother many years ago. I was 18 or 19 and had a cyst rupture while away at school. His brother told me to go to the nearest ER because that is what he though was happening. SO, I drove home and went to the ER. Well, long story short he was upstairs in the hospital delivering is own child and he still called down to give the ER DR. instruction on how he wanted me cared for and he even stopped down to check on me. Though very brief I was very taken back that he would do that.
