Update at bottom post 24hr collection

So I have to do the 24 hr collection for pre eclampsia today. Anyone else do this? When did you get your results?

Re: 24hr collection

I have had to do it about 5 times now! It is so much fun! Love going to reach for milk in the morning and reach around pee!!! Usually they get the results very fast, I was using the hospital lab and they always had the results that night or early the next morning. Good luck!

Re: 24hr collection

I'm in the same boat. Dropping mine off this morning. Are you getting bloodwork done too? My doc said they have to be done together. I was just at L&D for bloodwork and BP monitoring two nights ago so I'm a little worried.

Re: 24hr collection

When I dropped mine off (drop off was at the hospital), I also got bloodwork taken, weighed and blood pressure. They had me wait for the results of the collection and everything was positive for preeclampsia... I had the babies via c-section 2 hours later.

So if you think there is a chance you may have it bring a hospital bag with you!

Re: 24hr collection

Got the call that the blood work is ok..but I'm assuming that I still might test positive for preeclampsia with the urine? Or is it a combined diagnosis? Chat Icon

Re: Update at bottom post 24hr collection

I had to do this a few times with DS. I never had preeclampsia but had some elevated BP. Basically, I saw my doc every few days and had to do urine collection and blood work every few days too. Once I hit 38 weeks they induced me. How far along are you?

My results for the 24 hour were fine but my blood pressure is still a bit high. It started for me at 38 weeks. My dr. offers an induction at 39 weeks if you're hypertensive but I declined for now. The doctors and I are all hoping I go into labor before it gets to be much of a concern. I may change my mind if I get to my due date on Monday. Hopefully you pass and they don't make you repeat it!

Re: Update at bottom post 24hr collection

honestly if you are 38w and having issues like this i would get ready to have your baby pretty soon!!

my issues occurred at 32w and i delivered at 33w. if you are full term the benefits of delivering far outweigh the risk!!

for me they didn't take any specific bloodwork and my BP was fine. i was dx with pre-e based on my 24 hour which was horrendous (i have heard the cutoff is 300 of protein and my paperwork says mine was 1500 Chat Icon ) along with edema. after that we also found out that i had lowish amniotic fluid, and the baby was measuring small. when i was admitted to the hospital on bedrest and BP monitoring, they basically told me if anything at all changed, ie labs, vision changes, stomach aches, headaches, BP..etc that i would be delivered and that was at 32w. so honestly, if your BP is running high consistently and your 24 hour protein is high, they will prob just deliver you.

good luck!! Chat Icon

I had to do it too. Not so fun bringing a cup to the bathroom each time. The results came back the next day. Thank goodness I pass that one.
