ridiculous worrying begins...

i try so hard to sleep (mostly) on my left side but always wake up with the concern that i slept too long on my back or on my right side and i deprived my baby of oxygen and who knows what is going to happen.

i *know* my doctor told me when i wa s pregnant with my first that my body will naturally tell itself to roll over if it needs to oxygen for the baby but i can't help but worry.

ughhhhh, 24more weeks of this.

worry vent over.

I am a TOTAL back sleeper!! This might sound weird but I use a body pillow behind me and it keeps me from totally rolling over. At my 20 week sono the doctor said so long as you are slightly tilted and not flat on your back you are absolutely fine. HTH

I know it's hard not to worry but when I start to psyche myself out I just think about how millions of women have gone through history sleeping on their back, working hard on the farm, etc and managed to have plenty of babies who were fine... lol

I heard that they changed the recommendation and it's now to sleep on your "side" and it doesn't matter which side...?

Re: ridiculous worrying begins...

Don't worry....that's caused by the weight of your uterus and the baby on an artery. We aren't big enough yet to worry about that. Plus, you would be depriving yourself of oxygen first so if you aren't waking feeling dizzy or anything you and the baby are fine. My hips can't handle all that side sleeping so I have always slept part of the night on my back and it was never an issue....even at 40 weeks it was fine.

I use a body pillow in the same way. It takes the pressure off your side while keeping you from being totally flat on your back.

Personally, I've never been able to spend much time on my left side bc I get terrible pain in my ribs on that side. I used to be really vigilant about staying on my side in general. But now, at 32 weeks, it a miracle to find any position that's comfortable! I do my best to stay propped up one way or another, but the baby is doing fine anyway!

Re: ridiculous worrying begins...

I wouldn't worry at all. Your body will tell you when you can't sleep on your back or right side. I move around a lot and if I end up on my right side for a short period, I'll get a sharp pain and then I'll move back over on my left side.

When I was pregnant, I always tried to fall asleep on my left side, but I woke up on my back every.single.night. Old habits die hard. As you know, DD turned out perfect Chat Icon
