GD ladies - help with menu options...
So my doc called me monday and confirmed that I have GD. I have my meeting with the nutritionist on Saturday morning but I was trying to figure out what are some good options for meals and snacks this way I have something to follow until then and I'll know what to expect when I sit down with the dietician.
So, what do you girls find helps you through the day food wise?

Re: GD ladies - help with menu options...
I don't have GD this pregnancy but had it with my first so I have been monitoring my blood sugar reguardless just to make sure that everything is OK. I have more of a problem with low sugar levels...but...a lot of the recommendations for high blood sugar help stabalize sugars for the low levels also.
One thing that has been really important for me is to include some protien with every meal.
So a typical breakfast might be 2 eggs or 3/4 cup egg beaters with some cheese and some toast. I will either eat one slice of regular bread or two slices of "light, high fiber" bread. The protien helps your body to process the carbs in the bread.
If I have something like oatmeal or cold cereal I also have a hard boiled egg along with it to keep me full and also to add that protien in.
Lunches will include things like chicken, shrimp, etc. I eat a lot of leftovers for lunch.
And of course there is always protien with my dinner.
As for snacks if I have fruit I will pair it with string cheese, milk, peanut butter, or something along those lines so that i'm pairing the sugars in the friut with some protien.
I also write all of my food down and write my blood sugar numbers down also. I test 4x/day, when I wake up and 2 hrs after each meal. It helps to have everything written down in one place...this way you can see the correspondence between what you eat and your blood sugar levels.

Thank you! This definitely helps me out
