i never went in with DH but for both of his SAs we umm produced the sample together at home 
i didnt do IUIs so our other time was the ER. DH went by himself and was in and out in about 3 minutes. he said the video that was in there was lesbian porn but he just watched it because he didn't want to touch anything in there  . so i like to tell people that lesbian porn makes really beautiful babies

It take an hour and yes they do ... a tv and magazines  Or you could go in with him (which I don't recommend because it's awkward as hell!)
OMG have you ever seen that movie The Good Girl with Jennifer Aniston? He goes in to do a SA and she comes into the back with him. He asks, "Can I hold you boob?" I've never gone in with DH, but that movie line has become a running joke between me and him through the infertility ride.
And that's the visual I have when you say it was "awkward as hell"
