What to wear over an evening gown?
I have a black tie wedding in NYC on 12/3. I am wearing a gown--but I always have trouble with the top layer. I obviously need to wear something over the dress but coats always look weird to me.
Suggestions?

A faaaaaabulous mink coat!!!! 
Now, for those on a more limited budget: I have a long black wool coat that looks very elegant and expensive, "looks" being the operative world here. I mostly use it to wear over an evening dress when going to a wedding or a fancy event in the winter.

I would do a shrug if you wont have to walk too far in the cold.

They have a lot of faux fur coats and capes out now that would look great over an evening gown.

def a fur shrug. don't laugh but i actually saw one at dress barn the other day when i was looking for a dress for wedding (they surprisingly have a few cute things!)
