those with powder and dr browns??
I'm curious, I use Dr. Browns and powder formula, I have to carry around a spoon to mix the formula when I'm out b/c if I shake the bottle it leaks. I tried putting that little disc in that blocks the nipple but it still leaked. What do you all do?

I only have trouble once in a while with them leaking. If the top is on tight enough and I keep my thumb over the nipple hole when I shake it, I don't have a problem.

This is what we did when we used powder. The caps screw on.

I always mix the powdered formula with a spoon, no matter what style bottle I use. I find shaking the bottle makes the formula so sudsy!

If it still leak loosen up the top and reseal it it lets the air out of the pump.

Wait, don't you make your bottles ahead of time? I'll make about 6 bottles at a time. I mix the powder and water in a big measuring cup with a whisk. I never shake my bottles - it causes air bubbles, and the whole point of Dr. Brown's is to reduce the amount of air the baby ingests. So by shaking the bottles you're kind of defeating the purpose. Sorry if that was off track from your question!

Re: those with powder and dr browns??
I also used to make about 6 or so at a time using a big tupperware container that had measurements on it. So much easier!

I bought travel caps and a formula dispenser. I prefill my bottles with bottled water and take out the guts of the bottle put the formula in and shake shake shake. Put the guts back in and I'm set.

My DS is on Neocate for digestive problems, my gastro dr told me not to make the bottles ahead of time in a big container. She said to make each bottle fresh. At home I just mix the bottle with a stirrer. I shook the old formula once and it did get all foamy, but I tried it with the Neocate and it didn't, I think the consistency is different.

Re: those with powder and dr browns??
I would bring an additional Avent bottle with a cap and mix it up in there. I would have the powder already measured out in the Avent one and the water measured out in the Dr Brown bottle - I'd transfer the water, shake and transfer it all back to the DB bottle. I suppose theres an easier way but I got use to doing it.

Ah, ok - I understand now. I wondered if different formulas required that you make each bottle fresh. We use Similac which can be made ahead. And Similac does get foamy if you shake it.

He was on Similac and Similac Alimentum which I used the RTF, when I used powder on occasion it was foamy.
