I like Maple frosting. Maybe a brown sugar cake with maple frosting. Yum.
Oh.. but if you are trying to please everyone I'd probably go for a white or yellow cake with a fruit filling and a chocolate frosting or ganache. Maybe butter cake, raspberry filling and chocolate ganache?
Yummo.
I think we landed on Red Velvet and buttercream. Fighting for a vanilla cheese cake filling but DH is giving me stress.
We are also offering 3 desserts.
You MUST go cream cheese frosting with Red Velvet
While I agree with you DH is against it.
I'm fighting a losing battle. His family has their heads up their butts with me doing everything and trying to keep the peace.
I almost caused WWIII last night.
Then I wouldn't go red velvet. Your guests will expect cream cheese frosting and will most likely be disappointed when they taste buttercream. I would google and show him ANY recipe and prove that that's what goes with it.
Buttercream is still good with Red Velvet, though I agree not AS good as cream cheese is. But the difference isn't big enough that I think guests would be disappointed. Cake is delicious either way! lol! If it's going to cause WWII, I'd let it go.
Exactly why I just can't battle this.
Someone else was in charge of this party and didn't do squat..now with 8 days to go I'm in charge with not knowing budget or wishes.
The contract wasn't negotiated or executed. I'm surprised they held the room.

I wouldn't do a fruit filling if you are trying to please everyone - some people don't like it. DH won't eat his brother's wedding cake due to that I am not a fan, but i will eat it.
I'd go more simple, chocolate or vanilla. esp. if a cake is causing a war.

we are doing a cream cheese filling and buttercream frosting. That's actually what the venue suggested.
Either way everyone will love it.
