Black Forest is my favorite.
I also love chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling, rasberry preserves in between each layer, with whipped frosting

Oh.. but if you are trying to please everyone I'd probably go for a white or yellow cake with a fruit filling and a chocolate frosting or ganache. Maybe butter cake, raspberry filling and chocolate ganache?

for my wedding, we did 2 layers of yellow cake with strawberry preserves and whipped cream, and 2 layers of black forest cake. It was a bigggg hit!!
Also, I went to a wedding that had rainbow cookie cake. Omg yummmmmm

Buttercream is still good with Red Velvet, though I agree not AS good as cream cheese is. But the difference isn't big enough that I think guests would be disappointed. Cake is delicious either way! lol! If it's going to cause WWII, I'd let it go.
