GD Ladies

my fasting numbers have been in the high 80s mostly, with the occasional 91, have any of you had these types of numbers and had to go on Glyburide?

Yes, just went on it Tuesday. Numbers were in the 60s the last 2 mornings. Unfortunately so were my 2 hours after breakfast measurements too. So they want me to see wjat happens for a week and then decide what to do.



Edited to say I don't know what I read before but I was wrong. My numbers were between 85-94 in the am. Varied all the time. No normal #. So the pill made it 69 and 67.

my fasting numbers range from high 70s to high 80s... and i had a consult today and the doctor kept saying how perfect my numbers are and he doesn't want to see me for another 4 weeks!

i guess every doctor is different... is it possible they're combining your fasting number info with another factor (e.g. size of baby, fluid level, blood pressure)? i'm only suggesting that because our baby is still measuring 50th %ile, so maybe that's why they're not concerned with many of my fasting numbers being above 85?

If your fasting numbers are under 90, you shouldn't need meds. My endo doesn't do glyburide, only insulin, for a variety of reasons. My numbers were great at first, but when I met with the endo and went over my diet, it turned out I wasn't eating enough. I also lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks and had ketones occasionally. So they made me up my carbs and go on insulin to balance it out. I don't report my numbers to my OB, only the endo RN.
Oh an my baby is measuring 76th percantile, but he has been since my first sono at 8 weeks (just learned that) so the ob is not concerned.

you are technically passing. BUT some more strict doctors might start talking about it because you are basically borderline passing. What happens with GD is that as time goes on, the hormones become more out of wack and the GD gets harder and harder to control. So where you're borderline passing now.. in a few weeks you could easily start to fail a lot.
That's how it went with my doctor. He does insulin shots though, not pills.

In the beginning I had your numbers.. I was BARELY passing most of the tests... and I ended up on insulin.

has your dr mentioned meds to you? because if not, you could also be totally fine and not need anything.

The perinatologist wants to put me on meds now for my fasting numbers which as I said have been high 80s. My weight gain is normal (in fact I stayed the same this week), no ketones, baby is measuring fine, blood pressure is fine. My OB thinks the peri is nuts.

I understand if I start failing the tests, then time to talk meds, and that may be soon, but I don't want them yet if I don't need them yet.
