Help with Math - Due Date/Weeks Pregnant

Just got back from my first appointment.

I was given a due date of 4/12 but she said I am only measuring 6 weeks pregnant.

I think everything is fine - I have long cycles so I probably ovulated later than "normal".

When I do the math however, I don't come up with 4/12 if I am only 6 weeks.

I am going back in a week to make sure the baby is still growing. Do you think they will change my due date at that time to 4/26?

If your due date is April 12th, you are 8 weeks pregnant, not 6. Maybe you heard her wrong? Or did she indicate that the baby is measuring 2 weeks behind?

Oh, wait.....she said your due date should be 4/12, but you're only measuring 6wks pregnant? If you have long cycles your due date would be off because they figure your due date based on your LMP, but that is based on typical 28-30 day cycles.

As long as the baby is growing appropriately at the next visit I would assume they'll change the due date, but I really don't know.

Lol this makes me laugh because I had the same convo with my doctor. I called her back in tears because she said I was 3 weeks pregnant when I knew for a fact I was 5. We went around in circles for about 15 minutes until I realized that she was talking about fetal age and I was referring to gestural age. If you are concerned I would give her a call but it's possible she's just looking at it a different way

It sounds like they gave you a due date based on your LMP, but once they measured the baby you aren't as far along as that. They always give you your initial due date based on LMP and a 28 day cycle. Since you said your cycles tend to be longer, this math probably wouldn't work for you. They may change your due date at your next appointment. I didn't know my cycle length before this pregnancy (I got pregnant on the first month off BCP), so when I went for my first appt., based on my LMP, I would have been 8 weeks. When they measured the baby, I was only at 6.5 weeks. They didn't change my due date at that appointment because it was still early. At my next appointment, they did another sono, and then changed my due date. HTH!

Sorry I didn't realize that you were measuring 6 weeks. Then perhaps it's just because you O'ed later and they will probably adjust your date at the next appointment if that's the case.

I would think that they're probably waiting for a second measurement before they change your due date. My first sono was the only one where I measured behind. After that I have always been right on or a day or two ahead.

Thanks ladies - yes I should have clarified - she said my "numbers don't match" but it happens all the time and that's why I'm going back next week to make sure the baby is growing.

I guess I was just trying to figure out if they would change my date - I am expecting they will based on all your info. She said the 4/12 date after doing the measurement on the sonogram, so that's why I was confused when I got home and looked on the calendar.

I'm not worried as I know this is normal, I think I will feel good after the sono next week when I hear the baby is 7 weeks. Now, just need to be patient for a week

if you have long cycles then you most likely O later than Normal (later than CD 14)... and thus YES your due date would be later than the 12th and YES they would probaby eventually change your due date.

I fell into this catergory as well. I knew when I ovulated though (bc I used the CBEFM) and I calculated my DD to be based on the CBEFM O date and NOT on LMP. If I calculated based on LMP I would have been off by about 2 weeks.

I'm pretty sure that's the case with you as well. happens all the time.
