BTDT: Talk to me about stripping membranes
If my water doesn't break by Thusday, the doctor will be stripping my membranes to hopefully get things started. Any BTDT who can give me advice, know what to expect? I've read that it can be very painful or just uncomfortable for some. Did it work for you??

Re: BTDT: Talk to me about stripping membranes
My Dr. Stripped my membranes on Wednesday afternoon. W/in 20 min I was having very strong contractions. I didn't go into hard labor (i can't talk/walk pain) until the following night. Had DD that Friday. The stripping was uncomfortable, but tolerable. Good luck!

Re: BTDT: Talk to me about stripping membranes
Yes, I can share my story. I will give a somewhat abbreviated version here because it is long, but feel free to FM with any questions or for more detail.
I had my membranes stripped at 38weeks6days. My fluid was low, baby's movement had slowed down, doc was considering inducing me, and I had to go every 2-3 days to be monitored if I wasn't induced. So, the nurse actually brought up stripping membranes and I went for it. he said if he did it, I would probably have the baby that night or the next day. (i was already about 2.5 cm dilated and had been having irregular contractions for weeks)
contractions started on my way home from the hospital. they were much more intense and closer together than the start of my labor with myy first DD (first dd was textbook labor and delivery. her birthstory is in my profile) went to the hospital that night with very intense contractions that were 1 min apart. I thought I was going to walk in and deliver immediately. i was only 3 cm dilated. i suffered all night and hated the on call dr. he wanted to send me home. change of docs at 8am, the new dr said i was more like 4-4.5 cm dilated, and i was going to have the baby today. he broke my water, started pitocin. within 1.5 hours, I was fully dilated and ready to push. pushed for 6 minutes, and my perfectly healthy baby girl was in my arms.
ok, so maybe not the most abbreviated version, but still feel free to fm any questions or anything. good luck!
