ROCK and PLAY

So I have the Rock and Play SLeeper. My plan is to have her nap in it during the day, and use the crib at night. The crib is in our room since we have a 1 bedroom (eventually we will put up a screen or wall).

Part of me is nervous about her being in the crib from day 1...so I might use the Rock and Play Sleeper at night.

I'm nervous about flat head form her being in it too long (and I know that can happen from her being on her back anywhere too long).

Just curious what BTDT moms have done or what you all plan on doing.

I dont have a bassinet (didnt want to waste the money). I could get a pack and play...we are just tight on space.

Thoughts?

Re: ROCK and PLAY

i'm totally not responding to your post at all lol but... if you want the bassinet I have, it's all yours. It's nice and decorated for a girl. Because I like you, you can have it for free. there are pics in my album. and i'm totally serious... would love for someone to be able to use it (we have a cradle).

just throwing it out there incase you do want the option!

Re: ROCK and PLAY

We had our son in the crib from Day 1 and I am so glad we did. He was able to get used to it right from the start, and it was one less transition for us to deal with (for both him and me!) down the road. We will definitely do that with all our babies!

Re: ROCK and PLAY

I plan on using the rock and play at first and then the crib. We are playing it be ear though. I understand the risks of the rock and play, but don't believe it is unique to this product and the risk is from being on their back.
ETA: For poll both crib from day 1 and rock and play are fine is my choice.

Re: ROCK and PLAY

I used the rock and play exclusively until the day she hit 6 weeks. then it was crib at night and rock and play for naps.

i was trying to differentiate the night time sleeps with day time naps and figured i'd use the crib and R&P for it. I was also trying to establish a nighttime routine which involved her crib.

the rock and play is nice because it's so portable and can be brought into any room for naps or play.

i also like switching it up because it keeps her from getting too comfortable with ONLY 1 thing to sleep in... I like her having the variety so I know if we ever have to sleep out (which we are going upstate for a family vacation in october) I can bring the R&P and she will sleep in it.

I like flexibility... so i vote both!

ITA. DS sleeps in the rock and play now at night. I plan to transition him to the crib soon (he is six weeks tomorrow) but I'm not quite ready yet and BFing it's just easier to have him in my room. But I hope to do the same thing with making his crib transition part of the nighttime routine. He doesn't currently nap in the rock and play... I think as long as he's not in either one (or the swing, bouncer, carseat, etc.) you don't have to worry about flathead.

Re: ROCK and PLAY

Our original plan was to have DD in a bassinet until we were ready to transition her to the crib. She had other plans Chat Icon

She did not like sleeping flat on her back and we found that she never slept for very long when in her bassinet. She also had a bit of reflux so I eventually went out and bought the RnP sleeper and she slept in that up until a few weeks ago (she is 2 months now) when I found her slumped a little in it. The reason for this though was bc I put her in a swaddle me for bedtime and I was unable to strap her in bc of the swaddle. So bc she had started moving around a bit more in her sleep, she got herself slumped low in the RnP.

Long story short, she is now sleeping in her bassinet on an incline but the RnP has come very much in handy. She loves to sit in it during the day and watch me do whatever I am doing (i.e., fold laundry, eat lunch/dinner, cook, etc). It's really portable so it works out great.

Also, I found that she didn't really sleep with her head flat back in the RnP so I wouldn't worry about flat head too much. She always had her head tilted a bit to one side or the other.

IMO - I would use the RnP for naps, and use your crib for sleeping at night. Less transition - KWIM?

Re: ROCK and PLAY

DD sleeps in the RNP at night and naps in either her swing of the crib during the day. I am starting to get her used to the crib by having her nap there. I do keep naps and night time sleep places separate. we have a PNP and its still in the box...

Re: ROCK and PLAY

DS didn't sleep in his crib until he was 8 months old. He slept in the Little Lamb Swing for all naps and all nighttime sleep. His head is perfect and there was never an issue of flat head. WIth this baby I am tempted to just put her right in the crib to minimize transitions. It was so difficult to get DS into his crib.

Re: ROCK and PLAY

We had DS#1 in the Rock & PLay sleeper from day one until a little after we moved to our house when he was 4 months old...so maybe until 5 months old. We then trasitioned him to sleep in his crib.

We had a very small one bedroom when he was born and i had set up a pack & play bassinett but he hated it! The portability of the RNP was awesome also...we took it wherever we went.

For DS#2 we'll use the RNP also unless he doesn't like it. Every child is different.

Re: ROCK and PLAY

BTDT mom here and I am terrified of SIDS so felt more comfortable with DD in the rock and play at night right next to me than in her crib.
Most babies who die of cribs I think die in their cribs? Don't quote me on that though.
There is just so much space in the crib and they are used to being all snuggled up in your womb...I personally think the rock and play is more comfy for them at 1st.
