3 Hour Glucose Test
Low and behold I failed my one hour and have to go tomorrow for the three hour. How does this test work and are you able to drink water? Should I bring my own water or do they usually supply it? I am having it done at the Quest lab.....totally dreading it and hoping to gosh I don't have the gestational diabetes? Should I be watching what I eat tonight? TIA

Re: 3 Hour Glucose Test
I wasn't allowed to drink water. or anything for that matter.
you can't eat after a certain time tonight. I think 11 pm.
Honestly, it doesn't really matter what you eat today... you either have it or don't have it. You can't really sway the results by eating good today. With that said, I wouldn't eat a pound of sugar though!!
Good Luck!! I failed the 1 hour by 30pts or so and then I failed the 3 hour. I had GD and the GD diet didn't do anything for me (I followed it to a T too) and was on insulin. If you have any questions, feel free to FM.

Re: 3 Hour Glucose Test
good luck. i have GD and while it's annoying, it's manageable. just annoying. did i mention it's annoying? Lol.
i don't have any experience with the 3 hour (i took 2 hour instead of 1 & 3 hour), but like Kerri said, what you eat isn't going to make a difference.
eta I was encouraged to drink a ton of water throughout the 2 hours... i guess it depends on the lab, i was at bioreference. i brought my own but they also had a water cooler.

Re: 3 Hour Glucose Test
I also failed my 1 hr, but passed my 3 hr.
I wasn't allowed to drink water during the test, but I was allowed to drink it up until they took the first blood test. You can eat anything the day/night before.
They will draw your blood 4 times, but you only drink one glucose drink during the 3 hour test.
At first I felt pretty nauseous, but within an hour that feeling went away, the lab tech said that was a good sign, because it meant my sugar level was going down.
Good Luck!!! Hope you pass.

Re: 3 Hour Glucose Test
No water during the 3 hour, sorry. I gagged on the drink, but otherwise was okay except getting very tired. ETA: You do need to fast before it, and bring something to read or entertain you. Quest plays a constant loop of News 12 and it gets very boring.

Re: 3 Hour Glucose Test
I think every testing facility is different. They said I could sip water during my 3 hours. I did have to fast after 10pm. You go in, they do a draw when you get there, then you drink the drink. They draw again at 1,2 and 3 hours and you're all done. What you eat the day before will have no bearing in the outcome of the test. Like a PP said, you either have it or you don't. Good Luck!

Re: 3 Hour Glucose Test
I was told a few sips of water if absolutely necessary is ok.
It is the same exact as the one hour except they draw your blood two extra times after drinking the drink.
Bring a book and/or an iPod because it gets boring after a while just sitting there. They had News12 on when I went and that station just repeats over and over.
Best of luck!
