is soft ice cream ok?
I don't know why I thought it was a no-no. My PG friend was telling me she had Carvel soft serve ice cream the other day and her doc never said anything about it.

the only place I've heard no soft serve is on this website. My doctor didn't say not to have it, and no one I know in real life has heard of it being something to avoid. I've had plenty ;)

Yeah - it has to do with the bacteria that can live inside the soft serve machines. It's funny bc almost all my friends dr's tell them no too.

What foods should I avoid in pregnancy?
There are certain foods that are considered to be of high risk of Listeria contamination. The foods to avoid in pregnancy include:
•Soft white cheeses eg. Ricotta, brie, camembert, blue vein and fetta
•Pate
•Unpasturised dairy products
•Cold meats
•Dried/fermented sausages
•Raw seafoods eg. Oysters, sashimi
•Smoked seafood (canned is okay)
•Pre packed and prepared salads
•Soft serve ice-cream

Everyone is different. For some they feel avoiding certain foods is worth any risk. While others are not concerned. Im a "not concerned" person, I eat EVERYTHING. Find what works and is comfortable for you and makes YOU feel good. Being happy and stress free is more important IMO.

my dr said no but I've eaten it a few times. its the same reasons some drs say no cold cuts including mine. I've eaten cold cuts too. you have to do your research (more then asking what others do) and see what you feel comfortable with. with the knowledge that there were only about 800 cases of listeria reported in the US last year, I feel like my chances are extremly slim and I eat at clean places that have good turn over of cold cuts and ice cream. But thats what I do and feel comfortable with. do your research, talk with your dr and do whats comfortable for you. for this and EVERYTHING else you might hear/read

some say no because not every place cleans their machines on a regular basis and bacteria and mold can grow. if its a place that you trust and seems clean, then i wouldnt worry too much. my dr never said no though. guess it depends...

its not all ice cream its soft serve from the machines only
and lots of dr's do say its not allowed

its not all ice cream its soft serve from the machines only
and lots of dr's do say its not allowed
No I read it correctly....I'm just saying we worry so much over everything we eat, and there can be food that we think has no bacteria in it and it does! I guess being a mom of 2 and the 3rd on the way, I don't get so crazy over stuff now
