Highlights - does this sound right

i decided to get highlights for the summer but was a little shocked by the price. i know highlights are expensive AND time consuming. but this is a little more than i wanted to spend. is this the going rate?

Note this does NOT include a cut and tip.

touch up, Full head highlights, and glaze the total price was $280Chat Icon

so when i was done tipping it was about $325.00

i really love the girl i'm going to, but its not in my budget to keep up with highlights. i might look elsewhere but want to know what the going rate is before i make a decision.

thanks!

I pay around $90 for a half head of highlights PLUS a trim AND blow dry. I cannot imagine that a whole head would be almost another $200 more!

it seems like they add on for everything... i.e. the glaze is extra...

i think i will start my hunt for a new salon!

That's how much I would pay in the city...depends on the salon/location I think.

Re: Highlights - does this sound right

May I ask what the "glaze" is for? I'm going on Saturday (less than what you were quoted but still a little pricey) and only asked for the cut/highlight. Do I need the glaze?

Re: Highlights - does this sound right

i have extremely long hair, and get full highlights of 2 different colors so that EVER piece of hair winds up in foil - she has to schedule more time w/me than normal - and i probably pay about that, including a cut and blowout. the place i go to is not cheap, so if you're not getting a cut with that - i think it's a little much.

Re: Highlights - does this sound right

I go to a salon in Queens and just had a full head of highlights, cut, blowout and a glaze. It came to about $200.

I have long hair (about mid back). I love her though. It took me a long time to find someone that I felt comfortable with.

For a full head that doesn't sound that far fetched to me. I do have long hair though.

The place I used to go to that I loved cost me:
$105 for partial foil
$20 for glaze
$35 for hair cut and blow dry
plus tips for colorist, stylist and shampoo girl.

I have no idea what a full head would be, but what you paid sounds like a LOT.

a glaze simply coats the shaft with shine and semipermanent color; it's like putting a top coat of polish on your hair, and it lasts a week or two.

not sure if its really necessay... it sure makes my hair look shiny

Thanks for all your responses. i knew i was being overcharged. even though i love my girl... i have to look elsewhere. she is not worth paying that much. i like my highlights & would like to keep up with it at a reasonable price..

Definitely try Hairsay in Garden City Park. I've been going there for 13 years. I use April for color - who is currently out on maternity leave until late June. Heather cuts my hair and I used her for highlights this past time (with April's formulas) and it came out fine so I'd recommend her as well if getting an appt with April proves difficult.

For full head w/ a glaze I think it's usually $160 or so - definitely not what you were paying.

I go to Salon di Capelli on Stewart Ave in Stewart Manor. I've been going to Dina for about 10 years now, love her. My full highlight/glaze/haircut is $185. I love it there, and would definitely recommend!
