My DS is now 4 weeks, we've taken him out for walks since he was a few days old and we've had people over constantly for visits but as far as taking him to stores I haven't yet and we have 2 parties this sunday and next sunday and he's staying with grandma and grandpa bc there will be too many people that I'm afraid might hover over him and he hasn't had any shots yet.
My ped told us the biggest concern would be keeping him away from school children bc of germs....but that's not easy to do when you have a large family with kids who want to see the cute new baby.

My DC is due Nov. 22nd which means Thanksgiving is only a few days after. We will probably take DC to family's house but keep him/her in the car seat. An then we will have to do it again for the Christmas holiday...but other than that I want to try to keep baby inside for the full 6-8 weeks since it will be winter time.

First pregnancy, gave birth @ 36 weeks. W/ preemies, they suggest that you wait longer, so I did.
This time, I'm due in the winter, so I won't take the baby out in the cold.
It's really up to you, plus the season, overall health of the baby, and your comfort level.

Re: Did u/are u going to wait until the baby is 6 weeks old before taking her/him out?
I think walks are so different from a crowded restaurant. Not to state the obvious but sickness comes from germs- not the outdoors. So, no- I would not take my 4 week old to dinner at a crowded restaurant. That said, DH and I did bring our ds at about 4 weeks old to lunch at a restaurant that we knew would be pretty empty. He slept in the carrier and there was literally 2 other people eating in the whole place, so I wasn't very concerned with germs. So, I guess for me the size of the crowd is the main factor. If I were you for just a few hours I would have someone watch the baby while we went. Is the restaurant pretty close to home?
