Getting knives sharpened updated with info
Anyone know of a place (I am on the south shore in Suffolk) to take my knives to be sharpened? DH tried sharpening them with the tool they came with, but it didn't work so well.
Update:DH dropped our knives off with The Blademan (http://www.thebladesman.com) today. $5 per knife and they will be ready in a week. Will let you know the end result.

I've been looking for a place, too. (Same neighborhood)
The only thing I can think of is calling Restaurant Depot? There's a restaurant supply store in Carle Place that I know does them.

Re: Getting knives sharpened
I did a little searching around on the internet and found a guy in Seaford called The Bladesman. I am going call this weekend and see what he charges, as we have like 8 knives to get sharpened.
The Bladesman 3838 Sunrise Hwy Seaford, NY 11783 516-409-5321

Re: Getting knives sharpened
The tool they come with is for honing, not sharpening. Basically honing is maintenence you can do all the time, but you need get the professionally sharpened once in a while. Honing won't help if you they really need ot be sharpened.
I don't live on LI anymore, but we go to a cooking store that sells knives, pots, etc & hold cooking classes.

I should have added that the store is in that little strip mall directly across from the Seaford LIRR station.
Its website is http://www.thebladesman.com
